Hey all. Installing a new gas tank in my 99 Tahoe. It's a Canadian made Spectra tank. It came in bare metal.....well it says Made with corrosion resistant O.E.M. approved Ni Terne steel. Is there a need to spray paint the tank? Or not necessary. Anyone have any experience with these?
Not necessary. The tank is coated in Terne which is an alloy of tin and lead. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terne
It might not be needed but I still shot a coat of clear over mine after wiping it down with thinner. I want it to look good at my funeral, which I hope is a VERY long time from now.
