    Ok....
When I disconnected the negative cable the light went off while the car was running.....and the car didn't turn off.

Ok...so the new harness didn't have a fuse on the pink wire that goes to voltage regulator.
So I grabbed the old harness and pulled out the fuse and installed it in the new harness and still the light is on.....
    Now what...
    Yes fuse is good..

I think that maybe that pink wire fuse is for the TCS switch on the carb

Open your service manual and read it. The answers you seek are in the book. The manual has all the tests listed and tells you have voltage readings you should have at the regulator. You can jump out the regulator and make the alternator put out max voltage.

And for once again, just because is new, don't mean its good- TEST, DONT GUESS!!! And if you don't have a service manual, buy one!!

Back to old faithful... Theres probably an "open" on the rectifier bridge. Personally Joe, you should dump the antique atom smasher and go with a one wire alternator. Thats a Delcotron unit with an internal regulator. Dump (or jumper out) the black box on the firewall.
Thats all I ever use now and never look back. BTW its also a 100 amp upgrade from the toy 42 units in the past. The "ALT. IND." light is at the FAR RIGHT side of the schematics. All the dash stuff is over there as well.
A few thoughts; is the regulator ground 100%? Even the dash light/panel needs a perfect ground or that light will glow.
Not to hafta re-read everyhing here, but at rest, the battery voltage should be 12VDC. Start the car and the battery voltage should be about 13.4 - 13.8 VDC. Any alternator/motor shop in town should be able to set you up! ws

Bill big thanks for those photos.
I'm going for the factory look on this car.
I do have 13-14 volts at battery.
    Everything is new.
When car is running light is on
If I unplug the wire connector behind alternator light goes off if I disconnect negative battery cable while car is running light goes off.
    Seems like something is backwards.
I'm going to double check the ground on voltage regulator but that also has a new ground strap..

Joe, Yours is a 1970 I think. Did you swap back the old voltage regulator?

Is the harness specifc for your year or for a few years? Are all the colors correct? I have a 1970 manual if you need any details from it. Post a picture of the rear of the Voltage Regulator.

    Yeah got harness from Todd
    They both were the same

The harness is the Forward One only? Only in the engine compartment? Have you swapped back the old one back in or traced each wire color back to the firewall plug?

  14. First thing I would do in this situation is switch it completely back to the configuration in which it was working properly and then change one part at a time to see which part caused the problem.

I did a complete redo in the engine compartment area..
It wasn't just an alternator or harness replacement.

Are the warning lights working properly when the key is turned to Run? Does the Gen light come on?

Is the GEN light a light glow or full deep red?

    Full glow
Everything works great lights blinkers radio wipers all good.
    Everything is new.
It seems that something is backwards.
Because when I unplug the plug behind alternator light turns off..
But when it's plugged light is on.
    And everything is charging fine.
    Volts at battery
    Volts at alternator all good.
    Weird.
I have read the service manual too.

I agree something seems backward. When you unplug the alternator you are no longer charging. Any chance the alternate wires are swapped? Take a pic and ill compare the colors to mine.

Can you detect the voltage change when you unplug the alternator?
