I purchased a 110 amp 1 wire Delco alternator for my 1960 Buick Lesabre 364/2bbl to replace the factory generator. I got the correct bracket got it on but the 'generator' light on the dash now stays on? Does this mean it's not charging or does the fact that the car still has the pedal start effect it?

You need an alternator with a light terminal. (OR) Remove the bulb or put some tape over the light and install a voltmeter.
You have also lost one of two safety features to keep the starter from activating when the engine is running. Loss of ground through the original charging generator and the vacuum switch on the carb. The vacuum switch will sometime activate the starter when there is zero vacuum at WOT. Some eliminate the pedal start feature and install a starter button (not cool).

I have contacted the place I bought the alternator from and am returning this unit for one that will accept the plug in wire too. Thank you for the explanation. Not to sound naïve but what is WOT ?
