    Hey Todd,

If your not in a rush, I strongly suggest a dyno session..

we would have to be on a cancellation deal with Ron, so how much notice do you need to bring it on up?

    Looks nice!

    Dyno

Not in a rush after I gave up on the BG idea. The notice depends on what day it is I work SUN, MON, TUE and every other SAT 7 PM-7AM so I would prefer it be on a THUR or FRI. I would really like to know what she's got. :Brow:

let me give him a call on Monday, and see what he has open..

I think the first appointment we could get for a Thurs or friday would be the first week in June.. we can set a date, and if a Thur or friday comes up, with a few days notice, then we can get it in sooner..

I love dynoing... no one has to twist my arm for that..

Todd (and anyone else that can comment),

Your motor is absolutely beautiful!!! I was hoping you could answer a question on a related subject. How do you keep all the cast aluminum parts looking clean? It doesn't appear your heads are polished (to close the pores and prevent them from sucking up oil/grime). Did you clearcoat all the parts? Are are they as cast on the motor? What are the other options?

Normally after a couple of years don't cast aluminum parts usually end up looking dirty? How do you guys keep them clean?

Sorry, it's a little of subject, but I was hoping you guys might be able to provide some answers.

Once again, your motor is great looking, and I'm extremely jealous. Any other specs on the engine buildup?

    Brett

The valve covers are clear coated, heads and intake came that way from TA. Here are a few details on the motor.

    .038 over 455.
Ross flat tops with valve reliefs Total Seal rings.
BBC Eagle H-beam rods 6.635" long.(crank turned down to BBC on the rods using H-bearings .018-.020 rod side clearance)
Pistons are .027 above the deck (using .060 copper head gaskets gives .033 piston to head clearance.)
    Girdled block.
    Filled lifter valley.
enlarged oil passages, pump gear end play @.002, booster plate, by-pass line to back of block etc.
TA STAGE 2 heads (home ported with a couple trips to the flow bench then more work in the bowls last trip was Intake 72, 156, 215, 265, 305, 319. Exhaust 56, 118, 166, 207, 230, 239 these are 100-600 numbers. I spent several hours on the area just below the seats after the last trip, just like JW & JB have said the bowls are where it's at the ports are fine.
TA Dominator intake with about a shop-vac full of aluminum taken out of it, it was also the old style before CNC ones came out so it was extra fun. (heads and intake portmatched to TA gaskets)
    TA 308S cam.
    Poston roller rockers.
TA 5/16" + .100 pushrods for the correct geometry.
TA headers (coated at Moore power coatings in Waverly Ne)

:TU: :TU: Looking good Todd! When you get it running maybe we'll need to do an attack of the green Buicks at Scribner some Fri night.

Hey Todd...that is some beautiful work!! WOW!!

I have a few questions if you don't mind. I have a '70 Skylark sitting in my parents driveway back in Tx. Boy, I sure do miss my baby...I went from a 350 to driving a whopping 15 hp '82 VW Golf...I currently live in Italy...wouldn't have been too smart to bring it over here, Italians drive like morons :blast:

Anyway...I would love to put my 350 on the shelf and replace it with a 455 just like that. How much would a project like that set me back? Would I be able to just buy a 455 like that or would I have to find an old 455 and have it rebuilt somewhere? And if I can't find one...would it be possible to rebuild my 350 to look like that, how much?? And last but not least has anyone ever even seen a 350 give a BB a run for it's money?

    lol...I know that's a lot of questions...sorry!!

There have been a few topics about high(er) hp 350's in the "small block" section of this forum. That is, indeed, a beautiful engine, and I'm sure getting a 350 to look that way wouldn't be too difficult (other than the aluminum heads). www.trishieldperf.com (Jim Weise on this board) offers pre-built 455's for a fee pretty close to what it'd take to build one yourself. I know if I had the option, I'd buy one from him. I know the work is done right, and I know that proper provisions have been taken to ensure a reliable and healthy engine for years to come. I'm sure there are other builders as well, but I don't know enough about whether they offer complete packages or not to be able to promote them as well. Other reputable companies are www.paeenterprises.com (Jim Burek), www.taperformance.com (Mike Tomaszewski), as well as I'm sure several that I'm leaving out.

    Ben,

I did alot of the work myself to save money with help from this board so it is hard to put and accurate pricetag on. I did some quick adding and I'm sure I left some stuff out but that is and easy $8,500-$9,000 your looking at.

That's a lot of money for me....I was thinking more in the 5 to 6 grand range.....I guess it would be smarter to just rebuild my 350....at least I'll be able to say the car is totally original. (trying to make myself feel better now, lol) Do they make those type of valve covers for a 350...I only saw the chrome ones?

    D@** that's a nice engine!!
