If I dump my P/S unit and install a manual quick ratio. Is this a direct change out?
What else if any issues will I encounter? Whats been your experience...Its in a 71 Sportwagon

    Thanks

Pretty simple swap. Just remove your power box, with the pitman arm,and install the manual box with its pitman arm. If your manual box has the steering shaft that is splined all the way around, then the rag joint/coupler from the power box will will swap over.If your manual box has a flat section on that shaft, then you need the matching coupler for it.

Will this work for him? It has the flat on the shaft.

Yes,that box will work. Another thing I should mention is that some of the earlier pitman arms had a larger hole for the center link stud,so make sure that is the correct size too. They are both tapered, but one is a larger taper, and a smaller pin would be floating around in it.

If you need the steel coupler for the rag joint, with the flat spot,I have one.

The quicker the ratio on a manual box will require application of much more force to the steering wheel especially at slower speeds.

Your danged right about that. I put my PS back on after a few trips around town!
....Or just get a 1950's style extra large diameter steering wheel,
and put 60 psi air in some skinny front tires,
install an all aluminum engine, radiator, front bumper, etc
and-and grease the front supension every month.

I have manual steering on everything. The only difference is when you are stopped. Once you are moving,I don't notice any difference.
