I still can't forget a first gen camaro convertible in my uncle's barn that a neighbor was storing. Absolutely rotted out and hardly a usable part. If I remember right it was $7,500. I bet its still in the barn. And that was 10 years ago

Stop selling them the second you get it done , You have cleared out all the affordable ones within a 400 mile radius of you over the last 20 years!!!!!!
    What did you expect

I can completely understand the statements being made here. I am not made of money by any stretch of the imagination. I was finally able to get a car this past year. While not much has happened on it, I have been purchasing parts. But everything is going up and yes to ridiculous prices. Everyone(businesses) wants to make as much money as possible. They aren't in it for charity, but for profits. Unfortunately that creates a huge snowball effect. I work in the oil and gas industry and it's a serious catch 22 for me or anyone else in the industry. We hate paying all these high prices at the store and at the pump, but its those same high prices that keeps us in business and employed.

Anytime I hear someone ranting about high prices and this and that, I always want to stop and ask them one simple question: Would you be willing to take a paycut so the prices could go down?

I have asked a few people that question and the response has always been the same......a blank stare followed by silence.

The economy is a vicious beast.

I still know where a 1970 White GSX Stage 1 automatic is sitting in a guys driveway. It has been outside in the weather for at least 20 years that I know of. The owner has never purchased a single part for the car, but is going "To Restore it Someday".

So many people have asked about the car that he won't even talk about letting it go.

Oh trust me, I have noticed, I don't live under a rock and I have vehicles I drive every day that I need to buy tires for. Believe it or not I use paint and I eat too, so I also go grocery shopping. But since the thread started out talking about cars and Tom mentioned Coker, thus my answer. The bummer is you have to be almost rich to enjoy a past time that used to cost a ton less. And it's ALL due to oil prices. It just branches out from there into everything else oil touches in the marketplace. Which is basically EVERYTHING.

I too was someone who fell into that category. For over ten years, my Wildcat was used as a shelf, a table, a ladder and even a sawhorse. I knew that there were seven days in a week, and not one of them was Someday. I thought literally dozens of times about sending it off to be crushed, because if I wasn't going to restore it, NOBODY was. It was depressing, looking into my garage and seeing yet another of my life's unfinished projects staring me in the face. Last August, on two separate and unrelated occasions, I was told it was time to do something about the Buick. I did not wait for a third occasion. Since October, it's been in the shop being finished. I decided that I was NOT one of those people who owned a Someday car. I've worried and sweated about every dime I've spent so far, but within the next month, it will all be worth it. And for the record, I do not see myself EVER doing this again, so I'm making sure the 'cat is perfect on every level, because it has to outlast my grandchildren.

No, but it did work buying this latest 442 I'm about to put up for sale.

A friend bought this Olds that had been in storage for several years. He told me he was going to drive it as-is this summer, then yank the 307 Olds, put a small block chevy in it, and repaint it next year......... I told him, NO YOUR NOT! I'll give you what you paid for it, I'll do some work cleaning and detailing, fix a couple little things, and sell it to someone looking for a 44,900 original mile 442 that will want it all original.

In the next couple weeks this will be available to someone who wants to drive and enjoy something, instead of looking at their "someday" rotten project that will never happen, and they can get in and go for $7500:eek2:

This statement killed me Tim... I was thinking something very similar....

With Tom it's different, because he finishes what he starts ,and does it with a very high level of compitence.

We all dream about things (projects etc.). Many people need to get real. I did with myself 25 yrs ago when I realized I had to many unfinished projects. Sold off some to fund fixing one ,and concentrated on it.

Not quite the same thing, but it something I'd observe at shows/swap meets I'd go to. I like old pinball machines and gas station memoribilia etc.. I'd go to shows (annually) and see the same people trying to pedal the same (high priced) items year after year. I finally realized that for them,it wasn't about making money. They'd buy a space to show you what they had ,and what you could not have. I really think it was some kind of power trip, which is pathetic. Stick it in your oil can Frances !

Friend of mine has a 1967 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed vert. It has been sitting behind the shed at his dads house for at least 25 years. I used to try and buy it every year but finally gave up. Last time I saw it there was 4" dia. tree growing out of the top. So sad.

About 2-3 years ago I bought a GS 455, matching #, high options and I realized last fall that I'll never have/make time to restore it. Going up for sale shortly....who needs one? LoL

I bought a 4 speed stage convert earlier this year, and every time I tell someone who knows me that I am going to restore it, they all just laugh at me and tell me "no way, you will sell it before that happens".:mad:

Of course, they are probably right, lol! :Dou::laugh:

Man, I didn't realize how much fun it is saying that to someone else. It's usually me that people say that to.

I know of a 70 RA IV 4 speed Vert sitting under a lean too in the middle of the woods with a tarp over it. The owner told me he took it from his son as punishment for something 20+ yrs ago and the kid never came back to get it. The guy said something about a bad freeze plug also. Sitting on its rockers in the dirt. The ppl are low income and basically live in a shack. The AC was crapped out and I offered a brand new unit installed in trade for the car. Got the same old story. My sons gonna fix it up someday.
