    peedenmark7 drop that top !!!!

heres one for the highway mechanics.....I took a little memorial day trip about 100 miles north this past weekend.. my '71 gs convert is running beyond perfect and I am lovin it....I get to my destination.......and from there its my brothers '65 rivi and we have a fantastic time ..........till the ride home :(.....
well, about a week prior to my trip my heat factory original heat control valve starts weeping antifreeze [not bad for 31 years] ,so I dig into the nos parts stash and pull out an original GM valve and replace it..............
ok back to the ride home //....I get about 5 miles from my brothers yesterday and white smoke starts pouring from what I thought was the right tailpipe..immediately you would think head gasket, me too......but not so..... I open the hood and sure enough the nos heat control valve I put on a week earlier in replacement of the original is pissin antifreeze like a newborn..........
my mind starts buzzing with ideas as I am looking for the big save, cant have the wife sittin on the hwy. all day.......aaaahhhhh, the metal portion of the crank case breather tube assy............it makes a perfect splice in the hose and I am back on the road in about 30 minutes.......
now maybe some of you have thought of this...but maybe not,....I just thought I would share that little weekend tidbit........so you can never know too much about your buick !!!!!!!!!!!!
so the lesson learned ???? dont ever buy/install a nos heat control valve made about the same time as your car was made, infact dont bother buying one period the rubber diaphragm or crimp from tube to diaphragm could be loose which is usually the case and they will leak in a short amount of time.... I knew this beforehand ,but for asthetics sake under the hood took the chance.. it couldve cost me plenty if I hadnt been thinkin !!!

4 seasons part number 74603 installed this morning and shes back as she should be :)............

    best, john

Good to hear it's back on the road:TU:

I know the feeling all too well of seeing white smoke in the rear view mirror. Only my problem was a little more than an EXTERNAL coolant leak:gt:
