Just try to buy it and pay more for shipping the guy wants to wait if no one buys it he is going to put it on eBay and then he may ship it ????
I've had a very good success rate having people ship items from CL ads. I think it's all about the approach and I have a very nice email I send and I offer to send a label, etc.
Dano, How do you mitigate the possibly of loss of your investment? I'm not always good at reading character, over the phone especially. I love your approach.
Mike, I'm an extremely, sometimes to a fault, trusting person. On all, if not almost all of the parts I've bought off CL, I never even talked to the seller. It was all through email which is even harder to read and either sending a M/O & shipping label or PayPal (f&f) and e-mailing a label and it would've been super easy for someone to have ripped me off. Fortunately, most people are upstanding and I think I scored some good deals (bought an NOS core support for $350) and it's never been a tremendous amount of $ on the line, but there is certainly a risk involved that some people might not be as willing to take. Not on the CL parts, but I've had my share of getting screwed in deals too by being trusting and it's been for more $. Back in the early 90's, I bought 2 NOS '71 grilles out of Hemmings for north of $2k ($2300 + shipping IIRC) and I was sure relieved (1) when they showed up at all and (2) that UPS didn't break them.
