Okay, who has any tips, hints or secrets they might want to pass along?? :Brow: I'm going to be restoring one pretty soon and the snorkel will need some fiberglass repair. (see pics) What should I use?? Any help is appreciated! :TU:
Brett, Actually the 72 snorkels are plastic, and the 70-71 snorkels are a fiberglass reinforced ridgid plastic. So a person would use a different method to repair each of them. SEM, Duramix, Fusor, 3M, etc. would have the products needed to repair either type material. Tim
Tim, Do you have (what might be considered) a "parts" snorkel for a 72 kicking around that you might want to unload??? :Brow:
Hi Brett, I think I have one or two that you could just have. I still need to check out my Stage 1 coupe air cleaner to see if there is an extra good one that I could let go of. When I get a chance I will go through some of the plastic repair adhesive catalogs and get some info. on which material you would need. Tim
Jarrod, I'm in the (very early) process of attempting to restore one and from the looks of what I have, I'm going to need ALL the extra pieces I can get...
Sandblast is complete....now what? Now that the air cleaner body is sandblasted, is there anything I need to do in terms of cleaning it before I prime it?? I plan on blasting it with some air to get any excess sand out of it but what else is if anything) is recommended?? Any tips or hints are very appreciated.... :TU:
I'll be watching this tread. When the previous owner converted mine to an HEI ignition, the drivers snorkel didnt clear it. So they cut the bottom out of the snorkel!!!! So I picked up a complete setup on ebay this week. Dont know if you saw it, but its the one where someone welded in a new bottom so it would fit a 2 barrel carb. I only want the plastic part anyway.
Make sure you wipe it down with paint thinner or rubbing Alcohol to get any grease or oil from you hands off or the primer will not stick. Bill
That's what I was looking for....thanks! :TU: I'll post some before and after pictures of this thing later.... Stay tuned....
Picked it up yesterday... Here it is before it gets painted sometime today....DEFINITELY worth the $35.00 to have sandblasted... Hopefully I'll be posting some nice "finished" pics later on today. :TU: :Brow: inside... underneath.... underside of the lid....
Just make sure you paint in a heated area 72 or higher or you will get what is called fish eyes in the paint it will stick only in certain spots. Good luck looks good! Bill
