Looking good Brett....question on the seal plate, how did you get that final finish?? Just keep using finer sandpaper or did you clear it or just polish it out...???

    Tim,

    Thanks!

As for the seal plate, the final finish one I posted isn't the one pictured above, it's a different one I did earlier this week.

I used 600 grit and wet sanded the hell out it. Then, I applied 3 coats of jambing clear, let that dry, and then used "0000" steel wool to dull the finish. After that, I kept rubbing it with a cloth...

I think I can still make it look a little better with a different cloth....

I have 2 more waiting for their last coats of jamb clear. I'll post those when I'm done...

    Frustration is setting in.....

I never claimed to be a body man but.....HELP!!!!!!

Here's the first lid, done over again, after it's 2nd coat of paint. (the scuffs are from wetsanding)

If you look back a few posts, you'll see this is the lid that had a pretty good amount of pitting. I used a little filler, sand the living CRAP out of it, primed it and now this is how it's coming out.....what, if anything, am I doing wrong? It looks as though it's absorbing all the paint, very matted, if you will....

Should I just apply a couple more coats? Did I sand it too much? Is that possible?? I'm very close to seeing if this has similar characteristics to a frisbee by LAUNCHING it out on to the main road I live on....simply put, I'm at my wits end....for and AIR CLEANER LID!!!!

Thanks in advance for any help.... :TU:

Here's the second lid, which came out A LOT better than the first one after only 2 coats of paint....

Brett are you using spray bomb primer? If so it would take a lot of coats of that stuff to fill those pits. I did one not to long ago that was pitted really bad and I sandblasted it and put 5 coats of 2K urethane primer and it took care of most of the pits but I had to reprime with 2 more coats and it turned out just fine, just to get the small ones I missed.

    Jarrod,

Yes, I'm using spray bomb primer...the same one I used on the lid (above) that came out okay....

This is just weird....same prep, same primer and paint, MUCH different result...

It's as though all the paint is getting absorbed and the low gloss finish is NO where to be found... :Do No:

Same spray bomb of primer too? If it is that's weird. If not the spray bomb could be defective. Less fill properties in it. Just a shot in the dark.

    I don't know....I'm at a loss here...

Nonetheless, what do I do to get that low gloss finish the other one has, keep painting it??

They offer 3 different paints at your local auto store:

    flat
    semi-gloss
    gloss

    Your choice.
