Will the engine take on water if you drive in the rain with a GS scoop equipped car with the GS air cleaner of corse.

If you look on the bottom of the scoop there are small holes to allow for drainage of water. Unless of course you are driving in heavy rain and then the water is going to go into your carb. I bought a set of GS hood scoops once that the former owner had made custom sized sheet metal pieces to mount underneath the scoops and block off the holes - probably for driving in the rain.

Many people inject water and or windshield washer fluid into the engine to reduce detonation and increase power on thier street cars.. This is especially popular with turbocharged or supercharged vehicles as it also cools the incoming air.

I would not worry about any water that may enter the incoming air through the scoop.

I never had any problems, but always thought that any issues would be caused by the distributer getting wet

I've run an exposed Enderlie style bug catcher for years and have driven many times in the hard driving rain with no ill effects whatsoever. Even in the hardest rain most of what the engine takes in is still air. If you ever poured a can of Sea Foam or anything else down the throat of the carb while the engine was running you subjected it to much worse conditions than it will ever see driving in the rain. The worst that is likely to happen is that the water will partly clog up the air filter and reduce the amount of air you can draw through it, meaning you won't be able to get full power. Yeah, like you're gonna need that anyway on a wet street.:Dou: I wouldn't worry about it.

x2, You'd have to drive into a lake while it's raining to have the engine ingest enough water to choke itself out in the rain. The bigger concern apparently is the drain hole and the distributor. Make sure the distributor is as seal well enough, though I've never had any issue driving a Buick in heavy rain where I know the fan was pulling water into the engine bay and right at the distributor.
