    Hi Guys & Gals,
Need some honest opinions. '72 GS in Butternut Creme photo-shopped to delete the GSX stripe, rear spoiler & the hood. My '71 Skylark is the same colour & is currently dis-assembled for a vinyl top removal & an overall repaint.

I look once & I like the red stripes on the rocker mouldings with solid paint.
I look again & they seem a bit loud, maybe wrong colour for my car.
I currently have black stripes on the rockers. .

I like this colour combined with the red striping :TU:

What about adding RedLine tyres ?

I think the vinyl top and that body color compliment each other very nicely. Are you not putting the vinyl back on?

Personally, I like the red stripes.

I'm actually for the black stripes on the rocker moldings - I think it looks better with your color combo as well.

Getting a lot of grief from the vinyl, as much as I do like it. Only fabric I could find at the time has a heavy padding on the inside, sure to attract moisture.
Lesson learned. I've since found that NOS vinyl is still available, for a price.

The rear lower window channel, the holes for the cast corner pieces & the "T" studs are areas where moisture will penetrate the paint. Found some evidence on top of the roof of moisture penetration. Not sure if the roof covering was porous or if it migrated over the last 7 years.

The car as it is today. Sure is easy & quick to pull apart. Interior is out. We've welded the factory holes for the body side mouldings which will be deleted. Rust Check still dribbles out from the doors when I wash the car. Shows as a rusty coloured residue on the rockers. Wipe off with a cloth.
Skylark quarter logo holes & Buick trunk logo holes also welded up for now.
Still on the fence about Skylark, GS clone or somewhere between.

I keep saying budget for Skylark but the echo I hear back is GS455.:Do No:
One step at a time as I now have two away at university, the third in a couple years.
The car image used to photo-shop was a stunning '72 GS. Beautiful car.

lookin good, looks very similar as to how mine looked a few months ago. i also had my body side moulding deleted while it was at the paint shop. i think personally it looks much better without it. i did tho have the 3/4 vinyl top put back on it to make it stand out as a skylark 350 the model that it is. only other thing i changed was the hood. i put a gs hood w/ tach on it. i did though leave the skylark and 350 emblems on the rear quarters to throw people off. :Brow:

I hear you about the worry some vinyl top. I'm scared to death what's underneath mine. Last time it rained I had a couple beads of water on the inside of the windshield, don't know if it was from the bad install job or rust holes from the top. Either way, it's not getting peeled off till I have some serious $ set aside to fix it right.

I also love the 3/4 halo vinyl top, but it's hard to pull off. Buickberts car looks tough with it in his avatar.

The butternut creme color screams sleeper to me.

I think you're still going to put that 455 you have in your garage in it!

Looks like things are well underway @ the shop Steve! Is that @ Scooter's on the west side? Always heard good things about them.

I'm currently getting some home renovations done, and @ long last a garage @ my house, 30' X 30'.....it'll just be shelter for this winter then in the spring I can do it up nice on the inside and set things up so some home style resto and upgrades can happen to the GS and Centurion.

I may strip the GS down @ my work this winter if we send the Acadian home to the new garage and perhaps get some fresh Fire Red layed down on the car. My TH400 is ready to go back in finally so things should be a Go for next summer's racing and cruising scene.

I like how your car looks in the pic as the GS, and as far as vinyl tops go, most restored cars that get a fresh one these days live a pampered life out of the elements and moisture, so the ill effects of years of neglect and setting around outside will likely never happen again to it. Car would look great either way in my opinion.

    Hi Jeff,
Vinyl top was only 7 years old. Put on new when I restored the car in '02.
Scooter's is the shop......yes, very good reputation among the old car crowd.
I also have the matching mouldings on the lower quarters.

    Dean,
The mouldings I took off are not original. They were on the car when I bought it.We resecured them with a 3M product, two sided tape carefully trimmed.
The factory holes were simply covered over by the moulding.

    steve;
i like your car with the vinyl roof. it complements the body paint. i think the red stripes on the rocker panel stainless are a better choice than black.
i purchased my vinyl roof (black) for legendary and it is a quality piece.
