GSX rebirth? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4555374336&category=6144
Well, the rear spoiler is missing. IF it is a real one it would be a good one to restore if you can get it for under 10 thousand. Anthony
Seller posted that cowl tag has "Q-Q" for the paint code. Trim # is 188 (Black bucket interior). Looks to be a real GSX. It WILL require careful inspection.
What the???? Are you trying to tell me there is an "X" available and Mark Reeves is NOT 1st on the scene. ou: Of course he may already be on his way there to pick it up.
This guy seems pretty squishy - in the ad he states "numbers match", but several people have asked for those numbers and he hasn't provided them or a pic of the cowl tag. Also, in an answer to one of the questions someone sent him he states" See above, will try to locate the numbers on the engine. Was told if it has chrome valve covers it is a stage 1." I'd be seriously reluctant to pony up over $10 g's ( his reserve is not met at $9100, so I'm sure it's over $10k) for a car that has to come home on a hook, and if this guy can't or won't pony up *lots* of evidence it is what he says it is. This guy bought a bomb out of someone's back yard and thinks he's going to get rich quick - the sad thing is he probably will
Good Golly!!!! It's up to 15K - with the reserve met! With 3 days left, who knows what this car will bring. Darn!!! I should have bought a GSX in a salvage yard in my area for $300 in 1990 when I had a chance!!! ;-(
just my .02 . The felow I got my GS 455 from was cloning a GSX and had a cowl tag mde that says Q-Q so beware . The interior was 188 already . I hope the buyer at 15K is real happy with it . I see a 80K reso then he will have a 35K GSX that is made from repro parts .
To me this car appears to be the real thing, it has the correct steering wheel and gauges, disk brakes, had sport mirrors and they are in the CORRECT location, production number is in line with a real X. Yes cowl tags can be reproduced but I doubt somebody would have gone though this much trouble to clone an X in 1980, and from the sound of it this guy would not have the knowledge to clone one correctly, he does'nt even know where the numbers on the block are located!!! That being said I would still want to see the car in person before paying over $15K for such a rough car, in the end you may only have tags, title and some spare parts from the looks of it. Just my opinion
It looks like the car got a pretty good hit in the back both 1/4s are kinked .would need a lot if so.
And you don't even get a GS hood??? I would find me a good body shell and use some pop rivets....If it indeed a real X..
Its a train wreck but it is worth the money Yes the car is a train wreck but if it is numbers matching you can throw 80k at it and still come out ok in the end.
Not anymore. Full frame-off restored matching numbers GSX's are over 100K now. MUST be a Stage 1. 4 speed all the better. Low option all the better. Not every car will hit those numbers, but for the right car, well, they will. Oh, and $80K in resto cost may be a little light on that one...
Hu, so buying a Documented Stage 1 4 GSX body off car that needs final assembly for $75,000 - $80,000 isn't crazy in today's market? Interesting. I remember saying that not to long ago. ou: Tony
This is all great stuff to show our wifes! My 4 speed Stage 1 GSX is not numbers matching (but I do have have a correct 70 block & Wayne Roberts documentation) and when we bought it 15 years ago for 8k...she questioned back then if we were wasting money buying it!
Sorry I really think when you throw numbers like 100K out there the facts are the cars that bring that kind of $$$ are very low mile and all original cars with documentation and probably original paint . I have been watching several cars lately and the ones that we see in BJ auctions are not the kind of car you find on ebay needing resto . Add to that the feeding frenzy that surrounds muscle cars today and you could get big money for a good car but the situation of the seller and buyer and the timing are all important . I just got my Hot Rod mag . The white and black 71 hemi cuda that was bought for 2mil has "garnered an offer of 5 mil" I am sure there are enough people with crazy money out there but to me its like this , I will believe it when I see it . I am from the show me state ! I could say here that I was offered 50k for my Suncoupe but unless I sell , I do not have to prove it . Anyone that would buy one of these cars for 15K and then spend upwards of 80K restoring it should save his time and money and buy a car thats been done .
