It depends on the year/build date. For 1970, no...I don't they were scalloped. Definitely not at first, but maybe later.
I first had the non scalloped for the front of my X and after the post with the time line I figured I needed the scalloped ones. My X is a 3D build if this helps. The search function does not work well at times..
From my understanding all the GSX's had the scalloped moldings because they were started after the molding change.
The rumor was that the G60 tires on the GSX rubbed the wheel opening molding and that was why they went to the scalloped moldings .
Makes sense,..I figured it was because you will cut the hell out of your fingers washing the wheel lip
Yeah, If you hit a good size bump while you have the car doing a turn the tire catches the lip and tries to tear the molding off the car. I found that out the hard way when I did my first car. Duane
Hugger, you should search on GOOGLE for the various topics and related V8Buick.com threads .... the results are much better than the V8Buick search function. I typed in (from GOOGLE): Here is a thread very close to this discussion and your question: 70 GSX frt.wheelwell trim.Scalloped or not? ----> http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/70-gsx-frt-wheelwell-trim-scalloped-or-not.326027/ Also, George Nenodovich has a very informative comparison article on scalloped and non scalloped front wheel well fender molding on his site: BuickPerformanceClub.com. It's called 1970-2 Front Fender Stainless Wheel Well Trim: http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/FenderTrim.htm .
