I read through all the post and didn't really find an answer. I'm installing Doug's headers in my 69 GS 400. The passenger side fits perfectly. On the driver side, the number 1 tubes is hitting the frame as I'm lowering back on to the mounts. Looking at the motor mounts, the passenger side one looks different (big hole and small hole) compared to the other and any replacement I've seen? Think that could be the problem or has anyone else had similar issues with Doug's or any other headers?
I know two people that have used Doug's Headers. Both had to heat and ding in the driver's side. The headers hit the crewmember and the steering box on both cars (69 and a 72). It was also very close to the brake distribution block
And there is a different mount that isn't common and isn't listed by the aftermarket. I'm not sure how different it is from the common one. If one was ever replaced it was probably the left, so that may be part of the problem. Patrick
I've updated to disc brakes on the front, changing the location of the distribution box, and a smaller dual stage diaphram, and changed the steering to a DD bar so clearance there isn't a problem. I put in an after market tranny mount and crossmember and its almost cured the problem. Hopefully new motor mounts will get the last little bit. Thank you for the input.
