I need to replace the Wildcat's headlight (1968) switch as it's getting touchy. I'm worried about getting junk - has anyone bought one recently that was well made and not stupidly priced.
Well I was lucky enough to find this video - -- I took the old switch out, opened it up, cleaned it with contact cleaner and a fine brass brush. Reassembled with a bit of ox-gard and some dielectric grease. Works like new and I did not add to the trade deficit with China.
Now That you got it fixed you should put a set of relays on check out this posting..http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/headlight-and-wiring-upgrade.345165/#post-2927598 OP shows link to a harness.... Danial Stern site is a good read
I swapped out the regular low beam headlights for LED @Quick Buick so I don't need the relays. With LEDs the draw is lower and draw does not impact brightness like incandescent. I used Auxbeam bulbs and they are super bright. The "high" beams look like cigarette lighters behind glass...by comparison. The whole swap cost me maybe $80. I'm super happy with how it turned out and after today I have eliminated the flicker I was getting from the switch. I just need to tweak the aim a bit as they are "blinding" per my wife.
Great post and video. Had an extra switch and bought the chem-dip, wow what a difference. Clean up like new. Now i need to crawl under the dash and swap it out.
