I’m new to this forum and I wanted to ask where can I find the vin number on a 1937 Buick special. Where can I also find the key number?

Door jamb for VIN? Key number, you’ll probably have to call a good locksmith,

Buick often used a 1 that looked like and I and a 6 that looked like a b, so the correct number is 3044536. This is the frame serial number. The engine has a different serial number on it. Either the frame or engine serial number can be used as the "VIN" on official paperwork like a vehicle title. Buick did actually use letters in 1937, but they were at the beginning not the end and there use is not found in the decoding literature. Since your serial number doesn't have a letter at the beginning, it means the car was built at Flint MI. Cars built at Fremont, CA start with C and those built at Linden, NJ start with and L. Attached is a picture of a frame serial number plate for a Linden built car with a 1 that looks like and I and a 6 that looks like a b.

Thank you! I’ve been trying to find the vin number. I’m having trouble finding if the car has a key number stamped anywhere around the car.

...GM used same 1500 key codes (8000 - 9499) from 1935 to 1966. Four digit codes (if locks original) were usually on cylinders. Then you would need access to a GM key code manual to convert code to actual position/depth cuts on key if your intent were to restore keys/locks to original. If you just want a spare, get current key duplicated...

good day! sorry for my English. I found buick skylark 1966 in Belarus (the date on the frame is 10.5.66.1). I didn't find any other vin codes anywhere, including on the frame. without a vin code, I can't legally return the car to the roads. please tell me where on the frame and on the body should be vin codes and how they should look (preferably photos). maybe there is a list of these machines released in 1966 with vin codes? thank you!

maybe there is a way to restore the vin code for individual labels on auto elements? if so, how do I do this?

    hello nikolas
i hope you are doing okay, with all the stuff going on in your country nowadays

the vin should be on a little plate in the drivers door at the hinge pillar:

also look in the engine bay for the body number plate
it should be located on the firewall:

the 1966 vin for your skylark should start with 43 (for a v6) or 44 (for a v8) or 46 (for the skylark gran sport)
depending on the body style and engine your 1966 skylark vin could start with those 4 digits (code)

nikolas: i had (of course) no idea about the state of the car.
looks like a lot of work, do you have all the parts like the glass, bumper, axles and so on?

there is a vin number on the engine, look at the right front of the block

there is a vin number on the frame, but i'm not sure if this is a full vin or just a "partial vin"

    Thanks for the information!

The car is almost fully equipped. the windshield, transmission, rear sofa and seats are missing. the rest is in a different state but there is. Everything that is missing can be found in Europe and in America, and it is possible to deliver it to Belarus.

There is a lot of work, but a car is extremely rare for our country. As I was informed in the traffic police, no more than 10 cars were imported to Belarus. Therefore, the project is very interesting and promising=)

The main question now is how to legally return it to the roads, but without a vin code it will be unrealistic....=(

Thank you for the information about the frame and engine. Now I will thoroughly search for what inscriptions are in these places.
Of course, I will unsubscribe about the results. suddenly someone will be interested in the fate of this car=)

Thank you very much for participating!!!

nikolas, is the speedometer in the car in km or in miles?
if the numbers go up to 120, its miles
if they go up to 200, its km
