I'm still confused about the correct chrome mirrors for a 1970 GS. The mirror in the pictures is a left hand remote (looks like NOS). I'm not sure if it is for a "big" car, or if it is correct for the '70 GS (I know it's not the option my car was built with). I just want to know the correct application, it seems too big for a GS. The pictures include the tape measure for help determining application. It does have the DRAIN hole, and it has the Tri-Shield. It also has a casting number underneath D60371 - 401.

Let me know if it is for GS or "big car". Thanks!

    It's real simple.
If the mirror has a drain hole then it's not for a Skylark/GS. The mirrors with the drain holes have a wider head then the ones for a GS. (The measurements in the middle bottom and right pictures will be different.)

I am not sure what applications are correct for this mirror, maybe someone else can chime in.

PS. Could someone please make this a stickey, and possibly move it to the "frequently asked questions" section, so we don't have to keep answering the same question.

I'll have to check the measurements, but it looks like the exact same mirror thats on my 70 Skylark. There's no passenger side mirror, right?

That's correct, no passenger side mirror.

    Thanks

You have a # 981640 LH remote trishield mirror. There was another 70 big car mirror, #981641, which was a Riv only mirror but with no drain hole. If you look in the parts books, circa 1970-71, they will say that a #98140 was correct for all except 9000 series cars. But I do not think they ever came from the factory installed on 3-4000 series cars. They had a #981639 mirror that are smaller and had no drain hole.

Is this mirror (#981639) remote with Tri-shield, and does anyone have a picture of one with measurements.

    Ryan,

Thanks for posting the picture of the manual tri-shield mirror. I think that is what my car should have been built with based on my documentation.
