I've only had this car for a few weeks, so don't know exactly what's original and what's not. I'm going to do a rebuild on the rear end as soon as I can decide exactly which rear end this is. I'd really like to be able to order parts before I tear into it (open differential that I'll probably convert to a limited slip.) I'll be able to narrow it down once I get into it and can get spline counts, but I thought one of you might just recognize it. The cover doesn't look 8.2/8.2BOP to me, but certainly 10 Bolt. 3 3/4" from lower center bolt to next bolt. Doesn't look like a bolt in axel. 1970 Buick Wildcat Convertible. Engine is all numbers matching original 455. Any ideas?

Before you start the rebuild, make sure that you have all the parts in hand. This is an orphan rear. There are no reproduction gear sets.
only bearing kit is available and that is a custom set-up for us. no aftermarket gears or posi as stated. jim
I sure don't know much about this rear end. I'm guessing it was fairly stout to handle the torque of the '70 455 on a full size frigate. I'm pretty happy with the gear (I think it's about a 3.08.) The only thing I know it needs is a pinion seal. Any idea if the pinion end matches up with any of the "more common" rear ends? the 8.5 maybe?
