I'm working on my kids 2000 Ford F-150 differential. I was going to replace the outer bearing and seal on the rear right side and when I pulled the axle shaft there looks like some potential damage on the shaft where the bearing rides. Wondering if the Buick community could give me some advice as to how I should proceed.

    Thanks in advance.

You can buy a repair bearing that moves the wear surface to an undamaged part, or you can buy a new axle shaft.

    Or a used shaft.

Yep, Through the harden surface and will start to really wear through.
    replace it soon.
if it is just a hauler short distance let it go till it gets worse. BUT being it is your family ...I am sure you will replace the bearing seal and axle shaft.
    :)
measure the length before you go to the yard to get one or buy one new.
You can PM me and I can get you the best price i can get on it for you too.

Sorry Jim but I didn't see your post until after I had ordered a new shaft from Rock Auto. USA Standard. Other side looked fine.

Truck has 100k on it and we have owned for the last 20k. Gear lube was nasty. My bad that I didn't change it right away when I bought it.
