hi can anyone tell me the best place to get electric choke conversion and mounting gasket for a 74 800cfm q-jet im fitting to my 67 riv also its quite tight under the hood will a 3" air cleaner fit or should i stick with 2" cleaner cheers stuart
I have designed and am patenting a carb mounted electric choke conversion kit for your application. The kit is available for purchase on my website. Installable at home, on car. Instructional .pdf and videos available on my website. OR I do offer install services as well. It fits fine under stock , GS, and drop base air cleaners without issue. here is the kit on my website (be sure to select the Buick kit if ordering): http://everyday-performance.com/electric_choke.htm One thing to note is that the 1967 choke bracket has sawteeth towards the rear of the carb that will need to be removed/ground off to install my electric choke kit. Or you could change out the bracket to a 68 or 69 version, which don't have the sawteeth.
Thanks Ken just to verify the car is a 67 riv currently using an edelbrock 750 q jet with divorced choke which I'm replacing for a 1974 Rochester 800 q jet with hot air choke also I'm in England so knowledge is hard to come by stuart
ok then the important question is, what 1974 quadrajet are you using? what number? Buick qjets in 1974 were divorced choke applications, and that's what my kits are designed for. the number looked like 7044240 If your quadrajet truly has the hot air choke setup, then it will be a 1975 or later carb, number something like 7045240 or 17056240 or something like that, if it is a buick carb. In that case all you need is the electric choke element to install in the hot air cup on the side of the carb.
If your 67 has original intake with exhaust crossovers, then your 74 Quadrajet may not cover them without a spacer. Ken's electric choke conversion is the only good option for you that I am aware of for early Buick electric conversion. This is the type gasket you need for 67. http://www.quadrajetpower.com/onlin...arly-66-67-Buick/p/72043383/category=20893452
hi The carb number is 7045240 so thats a 75 my mistake and it has a hot air choke on it so i need a complete electric set up and a base gasket ive been advised to get a thicker gasket with nylon bushes on the bolt holes hope this makes sense to you and i want to get everything from one place as the english postal service add import duty plus $10 handling charge for adding import duty on each parcel i know it not a fortune but its the principle of it cheers stuart
In that case I recommend quadrajetparts.com Greg has comprehensive selections of base gaskets including the kind you seem. And he carries the electric choke coil you need. Mark makes a good point about the intake heat passages. Be sure you've got that angle covered.
