Did the Buick and Mopar actually run each other yesterday? I was there yesterday and because of the rain they didn't start till 3:00 PM and I had to leave at four. Saw Dudek beat the Vette twice, he was running 10.30s around 125 MPH. The GS made 3 runs, none of which he stayed on it all the way, hopefully. :Do No:

First of all, we need to give credit where credit is due....Dave and Wayne did an excellent job of preparing their cars for this shootout. We got beat this time, so the score for those keeping it is four to one in favor of the Buicks. Dave earned the win and deserved it.

Jim will tell the whole story, but he didn't lose for lack of trying. A very short time ago, the body wasn't even attached to the frame. The engine came off the dyno last Thursday, and many of the little details were finished the day before the race. NO EXCUSES, but the day of the race, we chased gremlins all day from crossed ignition wires to carb linkage problems and so on. Hot Rod, Dave and Wayne were very generous with allowing us additional time to get it together, but it just didn't happen. Not this day, anyway.

Jim is determined to find out what went wrong and why the car didn't perform as expected. Again, thanks to Dave Dudek and crew for the challenge. We had a frustrating, but great time!

My hat's off to all three competitors for accomplishing what seemed "impossible" just a few short years ago!

The rematch(hopin' there is one)in the spring would draw a huge interest!

My hat is off to Jim and his crew! All who I never met, but have only heard good things about. I'm sure the next time out with some more prep time, these guys will again put on a show! :TU:

"NO EXCUSES" yet followed by a few. :Dou: That taints things a little, wouldn't you think? And "4 to 1 if your keeping score". O.K., if you say so.

I didn't read his comments as excuses but rather an attempt to tell the story of what happened...perhaps your looking a little too closely for something that's not there?

...And the actual score is 2-2...

The Buick got the short end of the stick this time so The Universe is now back in equilibrium.

It's interesting...The last time the Hemi guy's won one of these highly contested match ups, they brought an eerily similar black RR.

I now believe the "Boogieman" drives a Black RoadRunner.

    Its all Good!

Sorry....it should have been three to one. Two to two? Whatever. I stand corrected. The only thing that matters was this race and Dave kicked our butt. Those were not excuses Patrick, but mearly letting people know what the heck we were doing all day thrashing on Jim's car. Call it new car bugs.

Sorry for maybe overreacting a little! :Dou:

Again, hats off to you guys. This is the type of racing that should end up on a reality show. "Pinks" could probably stand a overhaul!

Do you guys plan on repeating this grudge match anytime soon?

That's going to be up to Dave and Jim. I can see a race for the first FAST car in the nines though. (on slicks, of course) Dave's car is getting close.

I see 9.0s also. All that horsepower finally finding its way to the ground! Any of 3 can do it! Just a little more tinkering I guess.

I read the same post on Moparts,I have no idea how to tell one from the other,(alum to iron heads) but... the evidence that was posted seems to point to illegal heads. We'll see what happens..

    Joel,

I'm not trying to pick on the Buick (seems to be a real brute) but based on the shot of his engine bay he is pushing the factory appearing rules a bit? How about that fuel line? Would you guys pass him into the F.A.S.T. races with that engine bay? In the spirit of keeping things fair, what allowances/exceptions are being made in terms of factory correct appearing under the hood in the F.A.S.T. classes? I have more than one reason to ask as you are probably aware.

"That car has aluminum heads.. no doubt about it.

The round machined relief behind the number one exhaust port is a dead giveaway. I have a buddy in town here that just got a set of the same heads, and while reading thru all this stuff, I went to the pics and saw that pad in the pic of the Buick motor. I was just asking him about those the other day, since they are a hole that is not drill thru all the way. I just got back from going over to his house and looking again at them, and then we both looked at the pic below, and agreed those were the same Aluminum heads he has!

Check out that picture of the engine, and then look at this page. Same head, no doubt. I asked my Buick friend if any iron heads ever came with that pad, and he said no, it is apparently for an extra head bolt hole.

    Check them out

Buick guy was cheatin' and still got beat.. way to go Mr Dudek! " End of Quote

The "spot" in question is part of a machine process to add bolts in an effort to help with the Buick's poor head gasket seal, it only uses 10 bolts. But this machine process is not something all T/A Aluminum heads have. I would assume that since the original cast iron Stage 2 heads were machined for the extra bolts for the same durability reasons, that this same process may have been attempted with the Stage 1 head as well...

Just throwing that out before we all grab the hanging rope.

My wife and I were there on Sunday and were impressed with all 3 cars. The Buick just had a case of the new car bugs that couldn't be worked out in time. With the head winds that were blowing that day, it's a wonder they posted the times that they did. We'll get them next time.
