anybody know of a good paint that is good for you headers that's silver paint. I got the plasti-coat silver, as soon as the headers got hot it started flaking off, I've talked with a few other guys, and the same thing happened to them. Now i have found a paint that works (through word of mouth) rustolium-grill paint (arosaw can) but you can only get it in black, anybody know anything thats in silver that works?

    Josh,
The same paint that Jim W., myself, and a lot of other guys use for the Buick engines, Du Pont "High Heat" Enamel, is available in Red, Black, and Aluminum Silver! :Smarty:

Something you might want to try, with Good Results! :bglasses:

make sure you apply very light coats......i took the camaro's headers into work and sandblasted them before coating them with dupont's (i think) high temp paint...then i baked them....they flaked right away when i put them on the car.....i'm pretty sure i had put too many thick coats on in rapid succesion(wanted to get them done before i left work) and the bottom layers weren't able to cure......just a thought

I spent 13 bucks on a pint of manifold gray paint that Eastwood makes and was told it would be ok.So I painted my headers with it and its ok but not as to what I was expecting. You have to run it through a few heat cycles to get it to bond correctly.Yes if you get a GOOD brand of grille paint it will look good for awhile but it eventually fades too.

The grill paint does come in silver. You just have to look around.

    guys,

thanks for the idea's, not sure what im going to go with, might have to call these places and talk to the tech guy, get all the information i can, find out what it takes to get the paint to stick, i know this the grill paint rustoleum makes comes in black (I didn't see no silver, i may have missed it) my guess is the du-pont will look the best, but it's gotta stick

    thanks guys :) :TU:

i'll have to talk to the tech guys to see what the process is to make the paint stick

    eastwood silver

I and another buddy have both painted our headers after sandblasting with eastwood silver and the paint still looks great - about 2 years now.

Prep is key with that stuff. I use that same paint, and I installed my tubes in '98 originally- it's the same pair of headers, from TA. No leaks, no rust-out, nothing. I drive the car as a daily driver in the summer. I had expected to wipe the headers out in 3 or 4 years. All I do is remove them and re-apply paint after a good wire brushing when they start to look tatty
