Anyone run this tire on a 70-72 GS without fender mods? Wheel size is 8.5 wide with 4.875 backspace. Hoosier specs say the section width is 12.8 on a 10" rim. Thank you!

To fit that tire yes you will need a 15x10 and 5.5 backspacing...Ill Guarantee it will hit the outer lip of the quarter panel with the rims you have..

12.8" section width is the equivalent of a P325 tire. Phil Sedlon runs a P325/50R-15 on a 10" wide rim with 5 5/8" back space.

Ah, the good old Centerline 8.5" wheel with 4 7/8th inch backspacing. I know it well and it WILL fit all but exactly like a 10" wheel with 5.5" backspacing.

Backspacing is relative to the wheel width. Therefore a 10" wheel with 5.5" BS will have the same centering as a 9" wheel with 5" BS and a 8.5" wheel with 4.75" BS. Therefore yours will actually tuck in .125"(1/8") closer to the inside of the wheelwell.

On that rim I've run a 9" slick (fits wheel great), 10" slick (fits wheel nice), and an 11" slick (really starts to bulge around wheel). An 11.5 would only be worse so that may really be the problem with running that big of a tire on that narrow of a rim, not the backspacing and wheelwell fit. You really wouldn't be utilizing the tire tread width very well.

This is a great tool to compare wheels/tires to different wheels/tires:

    http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro....295&ar2=60&bd2=15&rw2=8.5&et2=3&text1=&text2=

I used 295 60 15 for the tires and the 10" wheel has "0" offset while the 8.5" wheel has approx. 3mm offset.
