Ive been meaning to make one of these for a while. Ive always used the Moroso #62200 SBC oil priming tool, but I always worried about putting a side load on the oil pump shaft or pressing down too hard on it. Ive seen a couple of you guys make these, but here's my take on it-

I took a points distributor I had that had bad bushings in it and stripped it to the bare casting. I took my Moroso #62200 oil pump priming tool and measured the diameter vs the factory distributor shaft, The Moroso tool is .500" while the factory shaft is like .472". So the tool is only slightly larger in diameter. I took my 1/2 drill bit and drilled the bushings out. I installed the distributor housing and tool into a spare timing cover and set the tool's depth using a 1/2" drill stop. So now the tool is in a fixed location and I don't have to worry. Took about 10 minutes to make and all I had to buy was a 1/2" drill stop

Well done! I just cut the top off an old dist leaving only the shaft sticking out. Chuck my 1/2 drive drill to that and prime away.
