I am new to the internet and new to internet forums and I was wondering if I was using this site correctly. I assumed that you just register, post questions and random people will answer if they can and vice versa, I can help someone if I have the knowledge. I love classic Buicks and this site is almost like a dream come true but lately I have not been getting responses to my posts.
Questions: Do I have to introduce myselfe first and get to know others? Do I have to come on here all the time or can I just occasionally post? Is this like highschool where I have to be part of a popular circle?

    My name is Shawn. Thanks

No high School or junior high. You will hear here on so many subjects that it will make you a novice like myself. Welcome aboard and kindness will move you forwards on this board.:beer

    Shawn,

The way things commonly work here is that people answer the questions that they have answers to. You'll see a lot of the same people replying to a lot of questions as they likely have a lot of knowledge (or are really good at making stuff up):Brow:

I'll give you an example of how I use the board. When I'm home, I leave my computer running most of the time. I'll go to the board and click the "New Posts" link. That will bring up all of the posts since the last time I read the board. Once I'm done going through them, I'll usually click it again to get the new posts since I started reading them. After that, I go to "Quick Links" and select the mark all read option. Since I used tabbed browsing, v8buick is usually left up in one of the tabs. Later on I'll go back to it and click New Posts again to see what's new since the last time.

If I've got a specific question, I usually try to use the search function to find the information before I go posting the question again. Of course it never fails that there will be something from the past I missed when asking a question.

So if nobody is replying to your question, it's likely the person with the answer hasn't found it yet. Another thing to remember is how you title your question. If you put up something generic like "Got a question..." then many will overlook it. But if you title it something like "How do I adjust the secondary air valve on my Qjet and set correct timing?" then you're likely to get a better response (and I bet Larry will be one of the first!:TU: )

    Hope that helps.

You will find a lot of knowedgeable people here on the forum. Give things time to be answered. New posts are the way to go mostly. And as far as Truzi is concerned..I don't think we'll ever figure it out, but he/she:Do No: is most definitely a wealth of knowledge as well. But then again who cares? It's all about Buicks anyway. Welcome aboard. :beers2:

You might want to be careful about how you word your messages.

For instance, avoid the subject line "HELP!!!!!" ,instead just say what you are after (i.e. "new seat apholstry question" or "How to improve low-end torque on my combination").

Remember that we are faceless and our emotions do not carry through the words we type- we only have the words themselves. Be careful how you word your posts, and re-read everything to make sure it is clear, succinct, and non-offensive.

BTW one of my "favorites" in my browser is http://www.v8buick.com/search.php?do=getnew , which brings you right to the new topics since your last visit. (Same as going to the V8Buick main page then hitting "New Posts", but saves a step)

Enjoy the board! There is a wealth of knowledge here, and some fun too.

Well, "Truzi" is a nickname, shortened from my surname. My given first and middle names are definitely gender-specific.

5 years on a board, and you still maintain a high level of anonymity.

Wow, my borderline insanity must have been kicking in last week. My posts have been getting good responses. I guess this all should have been common sense on how this works. Reminds me I have to work on my patience.

Thanks to all the helpful responses. I had a feeling buick people are good people. I thought I was the only one that truly likes buicks until I found this site.
