Hello from Texas! I am no stranger to GM nor swapping engines and work just GM trucks more than their cars. I could sit here and talk trucks all day but being home from college early gave me an itch to wrench on something I’ve always wanted, a car. I picked this 1972 Skylark project up for $3000, a steep price I know but what got me was the really nice black, bucket seat interior. It has some perks like the rally wheels and new tires as well. The motor is a 1998 Vortec 350, the transmission is a TH400. It was a buick 350 original car but someway down the line it had a 455 sitting in there which the PO sold before handing to me. I have a lot of work ahead of me but the goal is just to get it driving, it’s nothing special so total restoration is not the goal. The brake pedal depresses and returns but does absolutely nothing. A quick inspection today the front passenger bleeder valve is missing and possibly broken onto the drum, just my luck but that would explain no brakes if there is air in the system. I’ll update progress as comes along hope y’all can help this guy learn a little more.
Welcome. There’s a lot to be learned here. Dive in and start reading. When you get stuck, ask away. Pretty friendly bunch around here.
Nice start! Get in there with a vacuum, clean the whole damn car, and get a good sense of the things you'll be working with.
