I am in the process of pulling the M-20 transmission from my car. When I pulled the passenger side header, I heard something rattling around inside one of the primary tubes. I dumped it upside down and an orangey-pink stone-like thing fell out of it (it the biggest one seen in the pics). I heard the same thing again when I removed the driver's side header and three more fell out of it.
Needless to say, I was more than a little surprised and concerned when I found them.
I'm at a loss. Has anyone else had an experience similar to this? Ideas?

Yes, header stones. It's time for a header stone filter, I think.

    Weird for sure!
When you installed the headers, or whomever installed 'em, was it done on a gravel driveway??
Were they stored in a garage and maybe a critter was building a home in 'em before the install??

They are probably all that is left of some "nest" a critter made in your exhaust pipes. The softer/lighter pieces most likely either burned up or were ejected when the car was started up. I have seen all kinds of nests in junkers we cut up. Pipes make a really nice "out of the weather" home.

Isn't that how you make a non super scavenger header sound like a super scavenger header? Lol

I agree with Duane. Had to be an animal. They've been known to build condos in mufflers and beyond. I blew a whole family out one spring back in the 90's when I started it up after sitting a long time. Now I plug the tail pipes with steel wool for the winter. Has never failed me yet.

Things like this are common critter stuff that takes place over the winter and it got to the point where over winters a capped off my tail pipes with big tapered rubber plugs.

That sounds like a great idea! I never thought of critters.
