....and it turned out Great! I just wanted to post some before and after pics of my flocking project in case anyone needs to do the same to theirs. It's really quite easy to do with very good results. The hard part was sanding the inside of the compartment to remove the old flocking. The company I bought the flocking kit from was very good to deal with. Here's the link:http://donjer.com
I purchased a kit from them as well, haven't used it yet. I chose the nylon fibers, as they say they are more durable than the rayon. Patten, they do have kits, look on the '0rder' page. #645 for rayon kit, $21 #745 for nylon kit, $22.30 Don't forget to specify the color! Kit contains 3 oz of fibers, 8oz glue, brush, and cardboard applicator. S/H for me in January was $7.60. BTW, I first heard of the company on a GTO board. Also saw this product used in a recent 'Overhaulin' show....so word must be getting out.:TU:
Thanks Nick, yours is the exact application I am going to do in the 67 Console. I bought a kit last night off Ebay before I saw your post so we shall see how mine turns out.
LOL Your post reminded me of the "flocking" some custom cars had back in the 70s. "Suede" and other such finishes. Reminds me of the "satin" finishes of late. Give me a "Magic Mirror" everyday, anyday.
So I followed Nick's recommendation and 'flocked' my 67 Console today and it turned out awesome. Whole console is now looking factory new with tach housing and other parts re-chromed and black plastic console repainted and cleared with a satin clear. Here are a few photos of the flocking kit I bought off Ebay including the black 'flocking' material, the can of adhesive, and the tube you load and then blow the material onto the item to be flocked. Kit had great instructions and once done and dried I am very pleased. Photos show how I masked the console (with yellow notebook paper I found in the garage), the tube for blowing the material, the can of adhesive and bristle brush, and the material in a plastic zip lock bag. Thanks for the heads up on finding the material and showing the finished product Nick. I certainly have plenty of material left over if someone wants the kit for their console. Let me know and I will split the price I paid for the material in half. Don't have it at my fingertips but was $50+-.
Looks great Chuck, nice job! Makes a BIG difference in appearance, doesn't it? Mine is now 10 yrs. old and is holding up very well. Looks as good now as it did then.
