    Thanks Rob.

I'll have to get back to this after the carb is fixed. The choke is not functioning, some of the linkages are not installed properly... It's turned into more of a disaster now. I borrowed a tow truck and brought it over to a friend who worked in carburetors for 10 years (70s/80s). He and I used to work at a shop together and this is the person they throw anything pre-computers to. I never thought it was the carb, but like I said... I never had it done and thought it wouldn't hurt... guess that was a bad assumption. After the issue I did new points, cap, rotor, and wires. The plugs only had 100 miles or so on them but I switched some out if they didnt appear perfect. I did the oil myself right before I touched the ignition coil... I'll leave it to his capable hands.

hanging on your every word. Been dealing with the same issue, only intermittent. New cap, rotor, points, condenser, and coil. Even new fork connector on the coil+. This is the only thing keeping me from upgrading the Edelbrock to an AVS2

Well, it's been awhile, but I put an old AFB on from a GS that I had rebuilt with a new gasket. It ran worse, but only because I have no confidence in my rebuild skills. SO, back on with the Edelbrock, and a new gasket. But I don't recall a steel plate. Mind you, the Edelbrock had been on there for 18 years with no problems prior.

    Thanks, John

Longest story short... It was indeed the carburetor. Damned if I know how it went from good to bad in 7 minutes of changing the ignition coil, but it did...I finally got a competent rebuild and it runs great!!

Took my boy for a quick ride and no problems!
