i just had my a/c put all back together on my 69 GS400. I got the car back and I noticed that when the compressor was engaged and at idol my rpm and oil pressure dropped. I bought the bracket and idol solenoid that is supposed to be correct and a bolt on part for my Holley carb. I had to put spacers under the bracket and bolt it to get the solenoid to hit a good spot on the throttle linkage. Hopefully this will be safe. Now I need to work on how to clear my throttle return spring since the bracket is in the way.
Question is since this is my 1st time working on an ac car I noticed the solenoid right now seems to be doing what it should when I initially turn the compressor on. I let it run for a while maybe 5 minutes. I saw the solenoid plunger engage and retract a couple times?? Does the compressor turn on and off as need with out me actually shutting it turning it off on my dash controls? Does it kick in and kick out and that's why I see the solenoid dissengage?
    Thanks

Yep. That's exactly what's happening. It's more or less a "set it and forget it" kind of system.

So to make sure I understand this correctly with the compressor a/c running, everything on the compressor kicks on and kicks off or cycles? And that's probably why I see the solenoid engage and dissengage. Then everything is working correctly?

That's how I would see it, and describes exactly what happens under the hood of my own car.
