What is the difference between the "2007" platform and the Zeta platform?

    Why?

The "2007" rendering is on a platform that is discontinued, in Australia they have been using it for at least 10 years. The Zeta is it's replacement, which is GM's global platform.

GN stands for Grand National which is a Nascar race league. Buick no longer participates in it, so no GN GNX name in the future. Remember the IROC Camaro's?, same thing.

Right now GM doesn't have a program for doing a turbocharged engine on their design platforms. They are working more towards displacement on demand and are actually using more V8's in cars than in years.

cats a$$ = best thing since sliced bread

I like the GTO's the `05 and `06 styling is better, but the `04 is fine. More along the lines of European and not US Muscle look, plus it doesn't have the traditional cheap Pontiac plastic on the inside and outside, scoops, knobs, wings, etc. To someone that hasn't looked at them enough they look like a Cavalier, but they are actually 4000 lb Corvettes with a back seat.

GNX. No other name in automotive history says "80's Supercar" like those three letters. Now the legend is back.

Buicks 2007 GNX is a modern-day incarnation of classic street performance. When you turn the key and hear the throaty dual exhausts announcing the Twin Turbo 3.6L V-6, you'll know you have your hands full. Compared to its '80s namesake, the new GNX sports a suspension that is tighter, an engine that's more powerful and a manual transmission that now boasts two additional gears. The car will hit 60 mph (97 km/h) in about four-and-a-half seconds, and run the quarter mile in under 13 seconds. There's nothing like it in its class.

    Total performance

The completely new GNX isn't just about horsepower, of course. Its unique personality includes impressive cornering abilities, a smooth ride and surprising comfort. But the heart of the GNX is indeed a truly awesome Twin Turbo and Intercooled 3.6l V-6 engine, also known as the base powerplant for the Buick Velite Concept. The GNX produces an estimated 450 horsepower and with 465 lb.-ft. of torque, it has no problem leaving a stop with purpose.

Eighteen-inch alloy wheels and performance tires are matched to a fully independent, performance-tuned suspension featuring direct-acting stabilizing bars and power rack-and-pinion steering. Traction control and a limited slip differentials also come standard. And, today's GNX revs through six forward speeds with the close-ratio manual transmission, or you can choose a six-speed Hydra-Matic. Both come with a 3.46:1 final drive ratio.

    Performance-oriented interior

The GNX is, first and foremost, a driver's car. Every detail, from the satin-finish steering wheel to the race-inspired metallic pedals, gives the driver a sense of performance from the moment the car is entered. The standard feature list starts off with leather 2+2 bucket seats, in black -color-coordinated with the vehicle's exterior color. The high-tech seats provide lateral support, wrapping around the driver and front passenger and complementing the great handling characteristics of the chassis. Also standard is a six-disc CD-changer with premium 10-speaker sound system, cruise control, a multi-function driver information center, keyless entry system and a host of other features to enhance the driving experience.

    Sensuous design

Rather than create an imitation of the original legend, the 2007 GNX provides a contemporary interpretation of the classic buick sports coupe. The distinctive, tautly stretched exterior, aggressive lowered stance and sleek, simple form all help express the clean, athletic styling direction of Buick. Add this to the obvious performance of the vehicle and you have a rear-wheel-drive TT+I V-6-powered premium sports coupe wrapped in a seamless, modern design.

    Safety and quality

Bringing the GNX to a safe stop is accomplished through standard four-wheel disc brakes (ventilated front, solid rear), part of a four-channel anti-lock braking system. Other standard safety features include dual front air bags, three-point safety belts for all occupants and an Emergency Mode that automatically shuts down the engine, turns off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors and turns on the dome light any time the air-bag system is deployed.

Production of the 2007 Buick GNX will begin in September 2006 at Holden's award-winning Elizabeth plant in Australia using the latest techniques to ensure both measurable and "perceived" quality. Projected annual production will be 18,000 vehicles.

I HIGHLY DOUBT that the powers-that-be at GM will allow another Buick to be built that could possibly embarrass the Corvette AGAIN. GM allowing "history to repeat itself" in this manner.....VERY, EXTREMELY, HIGHLY UNLIKELY!!

    Cranks
    Hard,
    Every
    Valve
    Rattles,
    Oil
    Leaks
    Every
    Time(!)....

....whined and whined to the GM brass about their "second to Cadillac", luxury division, Buick's GN dominating all of GM's offerings (let alone the GNX which put a hard smack-down on a the custom twin-turbo Callaway 'Vette when challenged in one of the top influential car mag's!!).

Jim Wangers, of (original) Pontiac GTO advertising fame, was quoted as saying that letting Buick build the GN/GNX's was a HUGE mistake....they should have wore the Pontiac name badge---according to him and that GM really missed the boat on true sales!

Buick building ANYTHING new of true importance to the performance market, well....I'll believe it when I see it! PLEASE don't hold your breath... cause you'll DIE!

    Oh....did I mention...I DESPISE SHIVVIES?!?!?

...if the GNX was resurrected with the pics shown I'd be all over it. :TU:

Frankly the Buick name night now translates to "old person" so it'll never happen. They'll slap a Chev YoungFire sticker on it and it'll go out.

    Rusty Dragbikes Rock !

That's what bugs me the most, since the end of the G body for Buick in 87', Buick has done nothing exciting, and has only made cars for the Jerry Atricks.
Now their name is so synonymous with "Old Man Cars" now I think they've really hurt themselves for drawing a younger crowd, even us 40ish year olds. But, only us old fans of the earlier buicks would be their only chance of getting us on board again.

I would love to see them make something exciting, but I fear they'll screw it up just like GM did the GTO. The new GTO (already now discontinued) was an amazing car, great performer etc. But they should have badged that car the replacement for the Gran Prix, so there was no conflictual expectations for sales, and from all the enthusiasts. They could have brought that Manaro from GM's Austrial car which is what it is, and I think it would have had better baseline sales as the Gran Prix, then actually brought out a car with some familiarity to a classic GTO as the new GTO. I think that's why the GTO's moved so little while the Mustang has flown off the shelves in sales.

Like so many of you have said we won't see seperate engine developments anymore, that's long gone, it's all GM decision making now, I think the divisions have little say in design, they just rebadge and have a little facia difference across the divisions like they did in the 80's, but now the drive trains will all be the same.

Which I don't really care, that's fine with me, and I know since Buick is not in any racing anymore and we won't likely see them use the name "Gran National" or GNX again, they definately could use Gran Sport again, and have an exciting creation like some of those pictures I see below would spark some interests again in Buick from someone not on Geritol. I'd love it, but I want it rear wheel, or all wheel drive. Front wheel drive is something I could care less about when considering something of a sport nature or enthusiats nature.

    ^^^^^^^^^ Bingo.

On the whole GM has lost its product focus. The Aussies have done great things with the brand name (including originating the GTO but with a better engine) and yet the NA market churns out poorly designed and uninspired cars. the Solstice is a day late and a dollar short, the trucks have gone plasticy, Cadillac is "joke" name now, and the Corvette has lost its lustre as the common mans sports car. All while the Chrysler 300 and "Nostaliga" cars like the new Mustang, prove that people will pay for a fun car!

Bean counters doth not a car company make.

Thinking about it this morning GM would actually do well to blow the doors off the market by releasing a solid performing and nostalgia driven GNX/GTO/Malibu...break up the current thoughts about GM and really change the mindsets about their products.

Sadly it's on the porcine ascension program - we'll get a performance Buick when pigs fly....

  11. SpinLark

    SpinLark but seriously

Buick could come out with a new sports car, but just put a different name on it. Grand " ". There was the Gran Sport and the Grand National and now Grand " ". Then they don't have to worry as much as living up to the Grand National name and change the car so it could actually be made. my .02 cents

...cruel indeed that Buick has let thier products slip from "Fast with Class", the pride of the GM lineup to the "Last car before you die" image.

That new GNX that was photoshopped would sure clean up the line!
