I've got a '68 Skylark with a factory 350-4 that is stock except for TA headers, dual exhaust, and an Accel points eliminator kit. I'm considering upgrading to one of the MSD units. Would there be much gain in doing so? And any recommendations? Thanks!
Here is an illustrative article: http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/ccrp-9812-ignition-performance-test/ You are going to be operating your engine way below 6000 rpms. If you have not re-curved your ignition advance, consider spending your money there.
http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?63475-Power-Timing-your-Buick-V8 The best thing about the MSD distributors is that you can easily adjust the amount of mechanical advance. With the stock distributor, changing the amount of mechanical advance may be more difficult. With a near stock engine, there is no power increase from electronic ignition, just more accurate, maintenance free ignition over time. With a more modified engine, cam, jetted carburetor, higher compression, a hotter ignition can mean cleaner plugs and better drive-ability.
