I am just curious if anyone has imported a car from Australia?
I am interested in purchasing a newer Holden Commodore Ute SSV8 and am curious if I can import one.
why I don't see them in the US?
    Crash safety?
    emissions not compliant?
or just the import cost too high?

All of the issues you raise are major issues when related to importing a car. In addition, there are modifications that would need to be made if one were to get far enough along. But the best source for determining what is possible would be a web search for regulations related to importing cars into the U.S. that DO NOT have a U.S. cousin of some sort.

I suppose with enough time and money you could make it work. Have you done any research to see is some kindered spirit has already tried this in the past? And waht were the results?

As far as I know, the law states that any car not originally available in the U.S. can't be imported until it is 25 years old.

Many newer cars sold overseas are not built to federal requirements to operate on US roads.

    Hello Speedy
Greetings from your South Dakota neighbour.
I read somewhere that the LA Police have recently purchased around 3000 Holden Commodores. I am sure that GM Australia who make the car, would be building them to suit California standards and from my time living in Sydney, they kept a tight rein on emission controls and other international safety features, side intrusion bars, air bags, rear seat belts etc etc, which we now have here. Its a great vehicle and you might start something in the US, as once seen others will follow and want one. As a former New Zealander there are lots of them over there and they are very popular.
Good luck and keep us informed as to how you get on.
    Regards
    John
