Ahhhhh I gotta not look at this thread untill I go home and watch my recording. Spoiler alert.. I'll be back tonight....
Thanks Joe. I can't wait to paint this one and get a new top on. SMS still has the original vinly available. I seem to gravitate to green cars or vice-versa - Fortunately I really like them too. I used to have another Sherwood '70 Stage 1 4-sp. too (brown top & Dark Saddle interior) that I sold a while back and I'm doing another '70 350 4-sp. that's factory 2-tone green.
Well, it is a numbers matching car and I do like the color. But I was there with a guy who does concours restorations on Pontiacs(a lot of 6 figure cars) and is truly a paint and body guy. He pointed out a few spots on the car and then pointed out on the prior lot (blue '70 GS) what they would look like in a couple years. He did note it was better than several other Buicks we looked at today.
I am at the auction and tomorrow, Friday is a big Buick day. Beautiful cars. I bought this one: 1921 Buick Touring
FWIW, the white Stage 1 Convertible was my favorite car there. After looking at the Bamboo Creme Stage 1 Car, I am debating keeping my project that color(bamboo creme with black top and interior).
Speaking about the green cars. My very first car at 16 years old was a 1971 GS 455 which was verdimist green with a black vinyl top and tan interior. Best looking one I have ever owned. The rockers and emblems with chrome rims just pop with that color.
That is beautiful Chuck! Glad you posted a picture of it. I find it humorous that I didn't even get your '32 delivered to Ct. before you bought another one...I am one to talk though, I have one waiting for me to pick up in Phoenix, because we all know 5 is not enough! LOL God Bless Bill Squires(owner) Bill's Auto Works
My first GS was a '71 Stage 1, verdemist green with a dark green vinyl top and a saddle tan interior. I still love that color combo...
Lots of Buicks on the block today but a number of them did not sell since they did not meet the reserves. White GS convertible coming up tomorrow is awesome especially when you stand there a foot away from it and admire the details both on the exterior and interior. Wish I was 15 years younger with unlimited resources.
That white one is the bomb. Love it! How did that Blue '67 GS look up close? I thought you were there to buy that one but, I see you picked up something a couple of years older. Congratulations and good luck with it!
The white stage one convertible is a beautiful car don't want to nitpick it but a black distributor cap is not that expensive and if you take a close look at the consolette The cup needs to be re-chromed some serious piting going on there it looks like someone had drilled some holes in the consolette top in the past. Other than that it's a beautiful car hope it goes to a good home that will really appreciate the car for what it is.
Again, not to nitpick a beautiful car, and IIRC, Mike said this was a purposeful deviation b/c he just liked it better, but the wrong shift ball too.
Part of the problem in being immersed in an auction like this one is your sensory circuits are overwhelmed by all the awesome cars being offered, almost 2000 here st Indy. One can only absorb so much color, beautiful design, gleaming details and control the wants vs needs. If you have never been to a Mecum, Barrett Jackson, or any quality auction put one on your bucket list. People watching alone is worth the price of a ticket.
