I know I’ve read it but a search isn’t pulling anything up for me.

When I install the gasket do I put RTV silicone around the intake ports and water ports? On head and the intake side of the gasket?

Sorry for the dumb questions...kinda need step by step instructions for intake install.

    Thanks

Ok...just a shmear around all the ports and a thick bead at front and rear of intake to block seal? With thicker beads at the 4 corners of the intake?

Im a spray high tack guy. Coat both sides of the metal gasket. I just use some Permatex ultra black on the water ports. And not a lot. You don't want it squishing out into the water jacket. I removed al Permatex is gasoline soluble so I shy away from using it where it would come in contact with fuel.

I really hate those metal factory gaskets, they often leak. I only use the TA composite gaskets with the AMP valley pan cover.

Thats funny, the valley pan for the SP3 wasn't invented yet until I gave Mike at AMP the specs from my SP3 during the summer.

I use the composite gaskets RTV at the ports and Gaskacinch for the rest The spray tack work good to . Big bead of RTV at the ends you need two tubes just in case.

If there hasn't been alot of machining done I use the steel tub gasket. Copper coat around the intake ports, thin layer of black permatex around the water. I also am one of the wierd guys who use the rubber end seals, dab in the corner before you set the pan, then set the the end seals, then a dab ontop of the seal in the 4 corners. You MUST retorque several times regardless of which gasket you use, that'd why some guys have leaks, the torque once or twice and call it good. It may take up to 5 times before the TQ value will hold overnight.

If you need/want to use the composite gasket, it's best to employ a valley pan of some sort, and use the steps as above or if you opt not use the rubber end seals, you must be extra sure you clean everything good with brake clean, if there is oil residue on the China rail and you put RTV over it , it will fail and push out 90% of the time. And please go back and drag your finger over the excess so it's not all gooped out, that looks so trashy

Masking tape off the intake edge and top block edge. When you smooth rtv, then remove tape after it drys, you will have a super clean edge!:)

But it don't fit the SP3 and if it did he would not have asked me for pictures and measurements. Still pioneering 22 years later.
