"I looked at a 73 intake I have yesterday, and it's a 1243020-2 casting number. I was under the impression that they were the same as the 72 EGR intake, but apparently the number change took effect for 73. This one has a D5 date, and 73 on the bottom side."

    Thanks Tim,

You've solved a mystery for me. The one cast number I could not find any info on was 1243020.
As you know what was built and what was written sometimes are two different things. So its possible that the cast number changed from 1238323 to 1243020 in the late '72 model year but the part number did not change until the mid '73 model year....Interesting...

Just a side note here: I rely on what I've seen and recorded, the content of the Buick build manuals and history books
and parts manuals and most of all what you guys have seen and recorded when I write the Manuals.
I contacted BMD when I started the '70 book and was told that sometime around '04 or '05 BMD destroyed
a huge amount of their old records including the files that had 40 years of documented "cast-stamped-part numbers. This is the reason I do the books.

    David,
A little more info. My orignal 73 455 Stage 1 engine has the same intake (D 27), it is a full take out engine trans.

I think I took a pic of my 8323 cleaned and painted before I installed it. I'll look for the pic and send it to you.

I m currently restoring a 1972 Stage 1 4 speed car built in freemont and it to came with the 1238323 intake. Has E.G.R and A.I.R.

If a guy didn't want to hook up either option can they just be plugged off at the intake?

Are you planning on a 1972 book?
