Is my spare tire original with my 1971 car?

Hello all. I was suprised to see a double white walled tire in the trunk of my 1971 LeSabre.
It is an H78-15 Goodrich Silvertown belted tire.
Did Buick have a standard spare tire that was put in all 1971 LeSabre's?
I was going to replace the spare, then figured it might add to the uniqueness and originality if I just left it alone.

Looks to be. There is a date code on the blackwall side that will confirm for you. Pretty cool.

Well, there are alot of what appears to be random numbers & codes on the blackwall side, but nothing that looks like an actual date to me. There is one set of numbers that have a 7&1, '71' with other numbers together, but I'm not sure if that is definitive enough to say it is a 1971?

That is an original - right brand, right dual stripe. That tire was only used on Buick in 70 & 71

thank you all for the quick responses. Being that this is an original tire, I think I will keep it right there in the truck where it has been for 47 years. Certainly a great original piece to keep with the very original car! Thanks again. :)

Always had a soft spot for those double stripped tires too : )

Collected them out of junk yard car trunks

Think I still have a full set in the top of the barn:)

John, that is awesome. Get em out of the top of the barn, and up on the wall...those would look great on the wall of the man cave!

I only remember seeing those double stripers as aftermarket replacement tires.

You can continue to bask. My 71 Centurion coupe had an original. I love the look!

I put the old original back, and will not replace it. I will leave it be. Thanks for all the responses [IMG]

If you have a blowout - far away from home and outside of cell service... do you mount it???

You should put the valve stem in a position easier to reach. You'll be checking that tires' pressure often. Might as well make it easy ;).
