I've parted out cars that were nicer than this one, in fact back when I lived in Montana I parted out a 67 GS400 4 speed and sold the rolling chassis to a board member who wanted the frame. he sold it to some guy in Wisconsin who restored the car.. I was blown away.
What's wrong with making it road safe and driving it. I understand it's not worthy of a restoration, but why do they all have to be restored?
well that is why I stopped to ask about it yesterday but when I heard what they turned down an offer of $7500 I was baffled.
It is the perfect daily driver muscle car for sure, never know lot of times when you stand infront of people with a stack of 20's they will change their mind, take 3500 in 20's over there and see what happens, no sane individual would have offered $7500 I call BS on that
Its amazing what a fat stack of cash can do to change someone mind. Although its kinda playing dirty pool, but I'd make sure I flashed the cash in front of his wife. I can guarantee you she is the decision maker, not him. He may not accept on the spot, but I bet after the wife works him over for a few days, you'll get a call. Then you can go in for the kill. And I can probably count on one hand how many cars Ive bought that actually had for sale signs on them.
Based on the engine/drivetrain, I may be inclined to meet that $7500 guy 1/2-way. Otherwise, I'd pass. The body looks seriously rotted, talking major reconstruction after doing a full strip of the paint & primer, as well as any chassis issues.
This is almost the same as my Stage 1. It needs a lot, probably should have been a parts car, but bought it cheap and is a complete car. Shouldn't be to much longer and will be back on the road. But the word parts car depends on where in the US or Canada you are. As for paying $7500 for the car, nope not going to happen. I would probably pay $3500
Sooooo, guess who called me this morning..lol I'm guessing the $7500 offer was made up or the guy who offered it wasn't serious
I got a chance to completely inspect the car this time since he was home. it's a basket case, the engine runs smooth and started right up even though it hadn't been started in a while, car has tilt wheel, power windows, buckets and console, A/C. The hood has a rust hole behind the nose trim, correct 70 shroud and air cleaner are present. non posi rear. standard dash cluster. good grill and good core front bumper. what's this car really worth? the car was bought new in Wisconsin and then moved to Iowa before coming to Oregon. it's truly too far gone to save unless you have tons of cash and a mental illness. he really drooled over my 71 and even took pictures.
Like Tim and Ethan said, if you get it for 3500 plus or minus (more minus), it would make a neat daily driver. Like my bamboo cream 70 GS- too nice to part out and too far gone to restore.
I wouldn't drive this thing any further than I absolutely had to. the interior is pretty yucky. when new it was a bamboo crème car with brown top and interior and probably looked pretty sharp.
I'm with Jason, but you're not gonna make $3500 from parting it out. The value is in making it road worthy and having a fun beater. I would drive a clapped out 70 GS 455 any day over a 15 year old Honda Accord.
Door panels are toasted and falling off, headliner coming apart, carpet gross, rusty floors, seats split at seams, I agree with you on changing from bamboo cream to Brown
