A local high school in Northern Virginia received a donated 81 Firebird Trans Am for a fund raiser. The fund raiser was to beat the heck out of this car. I was told it was a dent free and almost rust free car and it had t-tops. The good news is that I received permission to pick some parts before it was (since I have a 79 Firebird also) hauled away.
dude, my dad's got a bitchin set of tools....I can fix it ....oh wait that's a camaro...nevermind. looked like a pretty nice car, had a shaker hood, t-tops, turbo wheels, damn shame.
Yeah, even some of the school officials could not believe it! Older GM cars do not mean anything to kids anymore...they love those rice burners with the big exhaust tips. A co-worker told me that there was a bandit type T/A at the school for a fund raiser event in which I could not believe it, therefore, after work, I went to see it. When I got there yesterday afternoon, this is what I had seen - my heart sank! I spoke to the school officials this morning if I could save some parts since I have a 79 Firebird and they said go for it as long as it rolls. I really wanted the rims but I could not find another set of wheels to replace them. I did manage to get the lower half of the shaker (bent), nice t-top bags, t-top interior trim, and some parts that were put in bags that no one tampered with (T/A steering wheel cap, and misc parts). The car gets towed to the crusher Friday morning - with those rims... ;-(
They couldn;t have picked a FIAT, instead. What a bunch of knuckleheads. Our future leaders of tomorrow! o No:
And which High School was it?? All I can say is it wasn't my high school.......GO RAMS!!!!!!!!!!! James W. Robinson, Jr Secondary School
Smashing any car is a sin, but especially one that would run circles around that Trans-Am in every category! :3gears:
That wouldn't have happened at my High School!!! I remember when I was in school that just about everyone envied my beat up Apollo. I remember when I brought it to school there were a few that offered me money for it. Plus few people I know would be inclined to damage a car like that. Trans Am means something to most I know. F-in hooligans!!!! :spank: :af: :blast:. Well at least there were a very large share of 79-81 T/As built and taken care of. Lets hope there are more that are willing to preserve a piece of history than ruin it in a blaze of stupidity. Patrick P.S. I just asked my brother (he is still in High School) if he knows anyone that would do that to a T/A, he said, "no, but I know a few people that would steal it". So there might be some hope after all.
Friggin' jerks! What a shame. It looks like it was a turbo model too. They pulled the same stunt with a 57 Chevy at my old high school during my senior year. The only thing left was the left quarter panel that was ripped off the car. That didn't hold too well with a lot of us, so now the shop teacher only brings in cruddy 80s cars. When will people learn...
Personally, I don't understand our society by teaching our kids to bang up a car for a fundraiser. It would have been a neat idea to have the school kids fix the car up a little and sell it to the public as a business venture. I am sure the car would have sold for $3,500 - $5,000 easlily since it was running, hardly any rust, and dent-free. I doubt the fundraiser was able to capture the $3-5K range.
I think they would have had a lot more participants, at least around these parts. I know I'd be there in a SECOND!! Patrick
