Where is the best place to put my jack stands on a 68 Riviera if I am doing a complete front suspension replacement? On the side rails? Thanks!

1964-1965 a-body frames are similar, and I always hit the front corners owhere the body mount holes are and the front of the frames bend into the horns. (side rails)

On the back, the body mount holes immediately in front of the rear wheel wells.

My jack stands have the typical "flat y" contact point and I set the jack so half of the "Y" is in the frame hole and half to the inside of the frame.

This has proven to me to be the most stable.

Have done this with every combination of engine, tranny, rear and all suspension installed and removed.

Be mindful that a full tank of fuel adds about 140 pounds to the rear, and if you have engine, tranny and front suspension removed, that is a lot af rear shift to CG.

And having put quite a few types of military aircraft from fighters to big heavys, cars and motorcycles on jacks, you can believe being squished is pretty much in the forefront of my mind.

And I always "shake the ****" out of it before I put any body parts under it.

I also try and put the car at the lowest point I need to do the work required. CG/vertical moment and all...

Generally speaking, I use 4x4's and 6x6's wherever possible over jack stands.

Safer is better and I'll never argue with anyone who wants to do more in that direction. :)
