Want to keep the retro thing going and want a second (or more) opinions if they will work.I can't see why not,but want to make sure.I want the retro 70's look..
I have used Accel coils, points, condensers and even an electronic distributor on various cars and never had a problem with any of them. This was back in the 80's & 90's. I am not familiar with their newer stuff.
I have a set of their 8mm black wires that I ran on my car when the 455 was first installed. They worked great. Then I stepped up the ignition to a Mallory distributor and MSD box,but put MSD Superconductor wires on . I was unaware they were not so good anymore.
I use the Taylor Spiro Pro in red with the angled silicone boots. I believe they are 8.8mm and have never had a problem. No radio in the race car, and a Sonomatic in the 70 that I never use. Philip T.
I've always heard bad things about Accel. Never have had any issues myself, and I've ran quite a bit of their stuff.
I've had all kinds of problems with Accel stuff in the past. I had an HEI that came with a bad pick up coil, and a coil that was garbage after 3 hours run time. I haven't bought anything from them since. Pat, are the wires carbon core, or spiral core? If they are carbon core, I'd toss them, JMO.
I've been running Accel spiral cores on the beater for a couple of years now, and it's electronic ignition (albeit a Ford Duraspark system). Been great.
I agree Larry, unless you're going retro.....then they add 10 hp. I was running stacked paper air filters, but I couldn't keep up with replacing them all the time when they looked dirty so I gave up and got a cheapie K&N knock off but kept the old Mustang style chrome top with factory 390 Hi-Po decal. I almost painted my aluminum heads so they wouldn't stick out. Was trying to go for the retro, pretty engine "diamond in the rough" look, so I purposely left all the grease, oil, and crap on the inner fenders and firewall.
