I agree, why spend all the $$ for lighter rotating parts to only external balance it?

Gary, can you recall on any of the builds you do what bob weight would actually be needed without adding heavy metal to internal balance a BBB? And off hand the typical BBB bob weight?

The bob weights were between 2200 and 2300 gm, and mallory metal around 1450 to 1500gm, needed 6 1" plugs drilled and welded in counter weights. This was on 3 different recent builds. Will be less with light weight rods and pistons. Each plug was $45. for materials.

The 350 seems to need less weight added for internal balance. Bob weight was about 1700 grams I think... I just ordered my billet crank to match the bob weight and no additional work to balance it out.

I don't believe we had to balance your billet crank in the turbo motor cause you had the bob weight when you ordered the crank.

Talked to my crank grinder guy.we decided to not internal balance it at this time.thanks for the info Gary.
Have you every full filled a block where you needed the cooling hoses from timing cover to intake? Any pics?

Yes we did Dan, I think it might be a little overkill though, it was for a nitrous motor thats why it was done. Had over 800hp on the dyno. I don't think I have pics but I may still have the intake and front cover that I can show you where we connected the lines.
My race motors are about 725-750 hp and are half fill, no issues, but I also throttle stop it back in bracket racing, run both 10.50 and 9.90 indexes , both cars will go quite a bit quicker opened up.

So not to kick a dead horse but has anyone ordered a new jw flywheel lately? I have,it's black but the ring gear is backwords.only bolts on one way, ring gear is so far away from starter (powermaster) that the drive only contacts 1/4 of the gear!! Guess I'll be calling tomorrow...

Yep Dan, had that problem recently. Starter won't fully engage. Me and my machinist argued with them for an hour, they said we're nuts, now how many motors have I done in the last 45 years and I'm nuts? Anyway, we tigged up the hole that didn't line up and drilled a new one then turned the flexplate around.

I called TA today, talked to Tim.he confirmed the weight and offset should face the starter. Mine doesnt.going to send it back to TA.I guess?? I did mention that this is a know issue.I just didn' need it at this time.have 3 weeks to get the car ready for the season, weather permitting!

I mentioned that I had them reweight my flywheel, when u got it back the weight they added covered up one the torque converter bolts holes I needed to use. I called JW, they told me the weight had to go right there and right there only, and they even noticed that it covered the home b4 they shipped it out........I asked if you noticed that why didn't you just redial hew new holes......they didn't gave an answer. So I had to redial a set of converter holes.

But something has had to change with the weights they use because there is no way when they orginally shipped it had had the converter holes covered.

Motor balanced out with no issue so the weight was at least reasonable in effect, just really bummed that a company like this noticed the issue with holes being coversed and did nothing about it just shipped it off to be someone else's issue to get fixedi

Both of my race motors are internal balance with stock crank. The motor in BQUICK was built in 2003 and I have lost track of the number of passes but is north of 600. Never been out of the car.....
Scarey thing...well I'm used to it by now is that the crank cracked when they drove one of the slugs in and the shop said it was junk and wanted me to still pay for the balancing job...though they said they would give me a discount on the balancing of a replacement crank. Cheap guy that I am....I asked them to grind and weld the crack (3/4 in) and finish the job. Be interesting to see what it looks like when I get to see it again.....
