Didn't know about this thread until today. I started my 67 GS collection in December 2013 with the red coupe out of Iowa. Then picked up the 67 Sportwagon which I converted to a GS400 clone last spring and showed at the BCA national meet in Wisconsin last July. Picked up the original 4 speed convertible last July and finally was high bidder on the 67 GS 400 red convertible at Mecum Kansas City on December 2 this month. I have the red coupe for sale and will have the 4 speed for sale in a month or so as I need to upgrade a couple of things on it before I sell it. I am a sucker for 1967 GS 400's but have the final two I am going to keep, the red convertible and the Sportwagon. Now has redline radials (looks much better) Now has redline radials and looks great!
Glad i found this thread too! I will add a pic of my 67 ragtop. Although car is now in primer and soon to be painted shadow turquiose
My 67 is a shell at the moment in black primer. Like Chuck, I also just discovered this thread. It is going to be green mist with parchment interior. I have a little more body work to finish before I shoot the high build primer, etc. After paint, I am ready for reassembly. All new wiring, Suspension complete, chrome replated, Engine complete, muncie complete, new Hurst 5335 shifter, interior complete.....I still need to get wheels. I am going with Torq Thrust VNT70R 15" Originally a Texas bench seat 4 speed factory A/C car. I will be converting to buckets and have removed all the A/C components. Eventually I will probably install a modern A/C system. It doesn't get that hot here in New Zealand, so not my priority.
Tom, I really like the burgundy 67 GS400 you use to own. There isn't a chance you remember the wheel/tire combo you had. I haven't seen a stance with that much rear tires on a 67 before.
I bought this car in August from a guy in Tecumseh, Mi. It's an older restoration but is a pretty original car(other than the wheels). I would like to get the rearend down a little more but have to watch tire rub.
very nice Whitey! what size tires are those? Cragars really make the 67 look more "business like" and meaner. I love em!
These are the wheels I want. They also have a polished version. American Racing Tora Thrust VNT 70 R:
The GS has buckets but the shifter is on the column and it has a console between the seats. Interior is black. It has quite a few options power windows and drivers seat. Also a tilt wheel. The cragar wheels were already on the car when I bought it but I do like them. I think they give it a classic muscle look. I didn't like the way it looked when I got it so the first thing I did was lower the front and get new tires. I really wrestled with what tires to buy but I ended up with 215/60/15 on the front and 235/70/15's on the back. Eventually I would like to put disk brakes on so I pulled the front springs out and cut a coil and a half off. I'm not sure if the front is to low or the rear is to high, but the backs a little higher than I really wanted. I'm really happy to have a Buick again!
Looking at the pic, to me, the rear is too high. It's period correct though. That's how a lot of people set their cars up back in the day, including me.
Those are sharp wheels Ed, I was considering those myself. They'll look great on your car. Can't wait to see pics!
