I have always been a fan of classic Riveras. I found one for sale locally.
1969 buick Riviera the car is from California originally it has 67000 original miles 430 ci V8 turbo 400 auto trans dual quad edelbrock carbs comp cam and lifters, electric fuel pump, factory ac, duel exhaust with glass packs, new exhaust manifold gaskets, belts, shocks, has original paint needs head liner some interior work have all receipts from new asking $6000.00 O.B.O
The seller told me the only real rust is under the roof. It runs and drives good but the brakes need to be adjusted because it pulls when you stop. Also the tires are ok but not great. The trunk is just bare metal in the picks but it looks solid. What are some common problems to look for when I look at it? Also what kind of tire options are available today and is that a fair price?

I think $6K OBO is a fair asking price for a running, 67,000 mile original (if it's really correct mileage). With the things it needs you could easily spend $3 - 5,000. Double that for unknowns and you could be spending $6 to 10K. But, if you can buy that Riv for $6k or less, I think you have a nice deal.

Once you pull off a vinyl top, there may be little metal roof left.

Need Pics? Sounds more like a $2500 car in description. Assuming it has a vinyl roof? Really vinyl should be removed to see how bad the rust is. Might not be bad at all, or you could need a new roof. Huge difference in repair cost. Riviera specific parts can be expensive and difficult to locate so keep that in mind.

Well it doesn't look all that bad in pics. Unless its "soft" or crunchy feeling under the vinyl where I assume there is bubbling maybe its not too bad. Only looking at car in person could make an assessment on that. I have seen CA cars with mostly rust free bodies be so severely rusted under the vinyl top requiring a new roof.

Based on the photos, I'll stand by my original statement. Here in Florida, it's a $5,000+ car. (as long as the rust is really minor)

I'd get a list of the mods to the engine...the velocity stacks & that exhaust is an abomination...just my opinion.

Thanks for the information. I'm not apposed to the velocity stacks but not actually sure if they add any performance. I would probably look into some flowmasters eventually. I will make sure to look over the top good. I hope to look at it in the next couple days and if it looks good make an offer.

As soon as I read Dual Quads I knew the hood had to have been cut. One of the hardest parts to find on these cars.

IMHO, that hood scoop or whatever it is has to go. If that hood is not cut, I think that would be a pluse....

Check the cowl area for rust.If yo see any where the dash pad meets the windshield I would run away as fast as I could. If it's there it's only the start of a rusted and expensive to fix cowl. Tom

Im still interested in this Buick. With the rain this week and scheduling looks like I wont be able to look at it till this weekend. Still open to another car if i can find a better deal.

I went and looked at this finally. Decided to pass on it. I am pretty sure the roof will have holes in it when u grind down the rust. Also no clearcoat left o paint and seats could use new covers. The car is restorable but would rather wait for a more solid project.
