The clip connects the gear Indicator needle on the bottom of the cluster to the steering column . When the car is placed in R N D L2 L1’, the needle will point to the year or park that the car is in . My car is a 68 skylark. The clip is highlighted in the photo .... thanks guys
I have a small assortment of those in my cabinet at work, but I won’t be there until Tuesday. If you don’t find one until then, let me know.
Hey guys, I’ve been trying to figure this out as well. I don’t have those pieces either but I don’t understand how it works with a console shift car. How does the console shifter for automatic trans move the gear selector on the dash? Thanks Nick
If you look at the column while you are moving the gear shift, you'll notice that the lower bowl of the column rotates. That clip screws into a slot in the bowl, and moves a spring loaded indicator that is part of the speedometer.
You have to remove the small panel under the column to see the attachment. It's adjustable by moving the clip in the slot. What happens most often is people forget to detach the link when they lower the steering column, and it breaks.
Hey Larry, I see how the column shift rotates the steering column which will move the gear selector. But I have bucket seats with the center console shifter, I don’t see how the center console shifter will engage that gear selector in the Speedo.
@LARRY70GS Ok, I see your picture now. I guess I need to find these rod and bracket linkage setup now which bolt up between the automatic trans and steering column. Thank you again for the info!
Well, from that picture, mine are not the same,as they curve almost 10 inches from the bottom.Larry,if you look at yours, they are the same as mine.I do not have any that are straight.I just got one out of the GS 350,and its the same as the few that I saved,OK,I just saw the first picture, that's what I have.Bruno.
