When did they become available? I thought it was well after 1970...

In the late 80's I looked at a beige 70 GS 4 speed car the guy swore was a real Stage 2 car, but 'the heads cracked' so they were gone. Car was in Delaware and SE Pa area. Bill Bell was the guy. I almost bought the car, but he kept increasing the asking price. I gave up at $6000. Still would have been a worthwhile buy at that price, but between the missing parts and the guys stories, I had a bad feeling...

I think they weren't available till 71,of course some lucky souls that were involved with buick got some a little earlier. One of the sets I had and sold recently had the vertical bosses on them ,which were real early ones and less than 10 sets were produced. They reside very comfortably in Boston.

I almost sold my GSX back in 1976 to buy a 69 Stage 1 with 1200miles on it a quarter mile at a time! He had a bunch of class wins and when the engine blew he had S&K Speed in LI build a 455 with Stage 2 heads! He wanted $3000 for the car back then and I would probably be dead if I had bought it. A guy from my wife's high school bought it and put it around a tree a few days later. I believe the engine went out to Brooklyn after that and it may even be the heads that Scotty once had. That car was fast for back then 10:28 @128 in 1971. It was a stripper with 4:78 gear. Originally dark green with a black top but in 1971 he had it painted a black flip/flop scheme. He took me for a ride when he made it streetable with 2 sets of mufflers and the car pulled the wheels and carried them on the street! That was along time ago.

That's what I thought. So an original '70 Stage 2 car would not have had the Stage 2 heads...
