I have two 1970 Stage 1's, and neither came with the #'s matching SS blocks. I realize it's a long shot, but if you happen to have a 1970 455 block (casting #'s are 1231738) with the last three digits of the VIN ending in 665 or 857, please let me know so we can see if the first three digits match also. I would like to reunite them if possible, and need your help. I also would like to ask if anyone has any documentation (window stickers or build sheets) for these two cars. This new section is a great idea. Thanks, JW. There is now hope for everyone who is missing their original drivetrain or documentation!! :beer
more missing SS blocks James, Your thread title says exactly what I was going to post so rather than have an almost duplicate thread I hope you do not mind if I just tag along and add to the list of "missing" '70 Stage 1 blocks. I dream of finding the missing Stage 1 engine or trans for our '70 Stage 1. The car came from the Marion, Indiana area (near Kokomo). A finders fee would be paid for info leading to this SS code block or BB code trans. Last 6 digits of the VIN are 211535 Thanks!
anybody else missing a SS motor, please chime in... No problem, Gary. I hope others join in also to keep this thread going, and to possibly bring awareness to everyone who may have someone else's motor just taking up that valuable garage floor space!! I too will offer a finders fee, or possibly a rebuilt 455 short block as a trade for one of my original Stage 1 motors.
More missing "SS" blocks Thanks for the offer James so I'll jump in looking for 3 more missing "SS" blocks from a car sold in Atlanta Ga area #293792; from a Ohio car #114553; from a Texas car #297251 Here's three chances for someone to make my day :TU:
Another missing "SS" block. Great idea gentleman. Looking for another lost block, last three digits # 267. Car sold new in California and ended up where I found it in South Carolina. Finders fee of course. :beer
One of the 70 blocks I am looking for was in a car that was sold new in New Orleans, Louisiana and ended up in East Texas in the mid 70's. The other was sold new in south Florida and stayed in the Florida area where it was raced. I've tried to do as much research on both cars to see if anyone had any history on the cars and perhaps the original blocks, but have hit dead ends on both. At least we now have hope. The internet is a very powerful tool when used like this.
Need to put a Search List on here so you don't have to read 200 posts to track all the numbers. Let them add a Number, ID info and Name to the list. If found , delete it. If this is possable, of course.
I think that would be a great idea.. Just have someone deticated to edit a sticky at the top of this section. Lock it so only the person running it can post and edit. Have his or her pm link in the post to get stuff added. :Comp: Have all the lost numbers in one column and all the found numbers in another. If we have a match then put a small notes on the bottom of the post explaining the details of said matches. :TU: :TU:

Update on one of my lost blocks Just so everyone else can have a little hope and realize that if you post your info on here, you tremendously increase your chances of finding your lost parts. I received a heart pounding PM from a board member and life long Buick enthusiast recently. He read this thread and asked if my GSX was from a certain East Texas town (which it was), and said he knew some history on the car and currently lives next door to one of the previous owners. We exchanged phone numbers and spent a half hour talking about the car, and sure enough he was able to put me in touch with a lady that owned the car when the motor was swapped. I called her and she shared some great stories about the car and it's life before being stored for 25 years, and told me the name of the mechanic who did the work. Well, I researched his name on the internet and started calling people, and the second phone call I made led me to the man who actually did the work, and he even remembered doing it. He was very interested in helping me locate the block, and is currently trying to remember what he could have done with it and said he would try his best to help me find it. I know it's not quite the success story I was hoping to share, but I am much closer to finding it than I ever would have been if not for this section of the board, or the power of the internet. Not to mention hearing the stories of a young lady named Ruby street racing my GSX back in the 70's!!! :3gears:
I'm still looking for mine, but wanted to let everyone know that another board member has a 70 Stage 1 motor and BB trans and posted it in a "Found" thread. Good luck! http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=127692
Hi guys, Im needing the engine and trans for my 70 stage 1 as well. It is an aqua mist car with brown interior. It was bought new in LA and has also been in texas for awhile. The last digits are 219637. Thanks very much in advance.
The "SS" or the other two letter codes are stamped on the drivers side deck of the block, above cylinders 5&7, very close to the dipstick hole. The VIN # on a 70 block is also on the drivers side deck, but it is stamped above cylinders 1&3. They are sometimes very hard to see, and you will need to clean the areas with carb or brake cleaner to remove any grease that has filled in the stampings. On 71 and 72 blocks, the two letter code is in the same place, but the VIN was stamped on the front of the block. I think the 71's were on the drivers side, and the 72's are on the passenger side of the blocks.
