Hard to believe it was 40 years ago today the plane carrying Lynyrd Skynyrd went down. I post this because they were one of my favorites to listen to while cruising.
Yea I would have been 15 y/o and was a big fan. Listening to their music today and comparing to what groups have created in say the last 25 years it becomes very clear they were an amazing genius talent like some others in same time period and the music has stood the test of time through social changes. Always wonder how much more they would have accomplished had the band stayed fully intact.
I know Donnie and Johnny personally, The nicest guys you will ever meet. Donnie drives a Super charger JAG, seems to have a lot of trouble with minor things with the car, DEALER ONLY parts for his car. $$$$$ He is 38 SPECIAL founder. Johnny

I saw Skynyrd in concert. From near me in Jacksonville Fl. Incredible talent. I listen to them all the time, never gets old. Also met Billy Powell years ago at a Pizza Hut when I was in college ! Very nice and approachable. I also have an original Street Survivors LP with the flames on it, if you know the significance of that.
I’m a big fan, too. I also have a ‘flame cover’ copy, found it in a used record store in Athens, Ga, set me back two bucks. Everything in the store was half off, and I was flipping through the Ls and saw it priced at $4.00. My first thought was ‘oh, Street Survivors. This’d be really cool if it were the flame cover, but it’s...wait a minute, this is a flame cover!’ Patrick
those guys were only 28 years old when they died, just kids, but look at impact they had on us. awesome.

Never got to see the original line up. But I have seen them about 10 times since 1988. Every show has been good. If you are a fan and have never seen them. They still put on a good show. They also have newer music that is very good.
I found a brand new one in an obscure dept. store that hadn't been pulled. Was young but happened to overhear my friend's older siblings talking about it & looked & sure enough.
Had my hands on a flame cover when it came out but regret not spending what. 5 6 bucks also love rebel to rebel
I might have paid $7. In retrospect, that was a lot of $ back then, but the '70's inflation was also well underway. I must've only been about 9 y/o & probably had to convince my parents to buy it for me, but my dad is a total memorabilia collector & guess he trusted that I knew what I was talking about.
I remember the night we heard about the crash and fire we had just left the record shop with a copy of the flame cover album. One of the guys said This album is going to be worth a fortune some day and went back to the store and bought two more of them that night. Said he was putting them away without opening them. Wonder if he still has them? Wonder if he is still alive? Wonder what happened to the other guys in the car that nite? I gota go hook my 8-track up and listen to some old tunes and remember some old friends... RIP Ike, Sell those albums Teddy,Give me a call String.
