If motor doesn't knock and frame/floors aren't worse than the rest of the body, could fetch $5-10k. Driver's door has a nasty crease, though, and some states have cost-prohibitive pricing for good bodywork.
You'd think that.......but I don't : https://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/d/arlington-1971-buick-riviera-boatail/6843912015.html 1971 Buick Riviera Boatail - $10000 (Granite Falls) hide this posting image 4 of 8 1971 Buick Riviera cylinders: 8 cylinders fuel: gas title status: clean transmission: automatic 1971 Buick (Boatail) Riviera 455ci Black interior Paint less then 10 years old and looks great Aluminum wheels that need a good machine polish to remove oxidation $10,000 OBO
I disagree . Its only worth $2000- $3000 if the motor doesn't knock and the frame and floors are OK . Theres at least $10,000 in body and paint work alone
He may think the 455 is highly "thought after", but I suspect putting that thing in proper storage was the opposite, an "after thought".
No A/C big Buicks were mostly northern States cars or Canadian originally. I remember many fishing trips with my Dad growing up driving to central and north Manitoba ... in July .... bring your coat.
The posted car looks like a parts car...... It's clearly rusty.....you can see the rear part of the passenger side quarter . He's fishin with " make me an offer".
The original posted car is likely not getting restored but was a nice car in it's day. Per the ad, he is the original owner, so he squeezed all the fun out of it he could, probably in the course of the 70's. He doesn't likely know market value, is maybe one of those that watches the Barret Jackson auctions on the speed channels and thinks maybe it's a $5000 car, but it's a $500 car all the way. I mean it looks it was a Platinum Mist - Black interior car new, wow, that's about how I would order it in 1971. He will likely add up all the recent work and want at least that but that's what the real world calls maintenance, or at least I do.
This thread is very entertaining. Thanks for the laughs. After restoring a 71 in the late 90s I shudder to think what it would cost now. Boattails have experienced above average appreciation as of late but unfortunately this one is pretty rough and really the higher value market is not applicable. I'm with Hugger and think $500 is a reasonable offer but I'm sure there is someone out there with rose colored glasses. I threw mine out a long time ago. If GS and bucket interior maybe a grand and even then it'd have to be someone who doesn't care about being upside down instantly.
